COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. An elementary school has banned tag on its playground after some children complained they were harassed or chased against their will.
"It causes a lot of conflict on the playground," said Cindy Fesgen, assistant principal of the Discovery Canyon Campus school.
Running games are still allowed as long as students don't chase each other, she said.
Fesgen said two parents complained to her about the ban but most parents and children didn't object.
In 2005, two elementary schools in the nearby Falcon School District did away with tag and similar games in favor of alternatives with less physical contact. School officials said the move encouraged more students to play games and helped reduce playground squabbles.

We used to have plenty of conflicts about who was “it”
oh great, now the kids will be obese...............
God forbid our children should ever be exposed to conflict. In the liberal utopian world there is no such thing as conflict and everthing is peace, love and Bobby Sherman.
And the idiocy continues to grow ...
So what ever happens to the cooties than????
I guess they’ll need to play the video version now.
We used to play “smear the queer”, when I was in elementary school. I doubt that would be tolerated anymore......
That’s why I like martial arts and I think MMA/UFC is so popular: it the only place you gave kick and hit each other and not get arrested, plus it’s a good outlet for the frustrated and marginalized American male. Just look at the success of the movies Gladiator and 300. If that doesn’t speak volumes....
Tag’s too rough now. Oh, geez.
We played dodge ball at Church. Now I hear most schools won’t even play the game.
Um, the way to avoid being chased against your will is to not play.
Huh?
We usually had touch football taken away on a regular basis. Touch can become tackle in a hurry.
Actually pretty much any game became rough after a while so they all had to be rotated.
Why can’t tag just be in the rotation?
I meant that if you didn’t want to play tag, don’t chase back if somebody tags you. Play on the swings or something. I can’t see how any kid can be forced to play tag.
When I was a kid, I got beat up a lot. Finally, I wised up, bulked up, and became the beater, not the beatee!
The natural order is that the strong dominate the weak. The sooner kids realize that might makes right, the better off they will be for the cold hard reality of life: the weak and stupid will always be victims, so toughen up!
A rock upside someone's head works wonders, too! When kids realize bothering you leads to pain and blood, they leave you alone!
