A family dog protected four young children in a West Vancouver tree house from a hungry black bear.
The dog assumed a defensive position below the tree house in a backyard on Highland Drive as the children, aged 2 to 6, screamed for help.
"Bears climb trees. I thank God the dog was there," ...
The bear wandered into the yard looking for food ...
"What's unique about this is the way the dog protected the children. I've never seen anything like it."
