Of the opinion that the oldest post-diluvian (after the Flood) civilization was near Mesopotamia. This opinion is supported by a lot of archaeological evidence, and also fits the Biblical account.

P.S. Of the opinion that the Flood was global, not regional (just to make things clear, since the Black Sea flood hypothesis was mentioned here).

:') Just to make things clear, I don't agree with Ryan and Pitman's view that their Black Sea flood was the origin of the Flood stories. See my review on Amazon.

Here is what I find interesting. Proir to C12 dating availability, Vinca civilisation was considered to be inspired by and linked to Sumerian culture. But when carbon dating revealed that Vinca civillization is at least thousand years older than Sumerian, suddenly, there is no connection.

Catal Huyuk’s destruction took place during that inundation of the Black Sea

Interesting.

Well, I should have stated that more clearly... Ryan and Pitman suggested that the sack of Catal Huyuk, the fortification of various sites in the Near East, maybe other stuff, resulted from the migration out of the flooding basin. :’)

Understand. It seems a reasonable inference that a displaced group could have sacked Catal Huyuk after being driven off their land by the flood, but there isn't any way to know based on the current state of the evidence.

True, it’s just a reasonable supposition; obviously what is needed to solidify it somewhat would be more evidence of a good-sized population in ancient times on the now-flooded area. Of course, if there were written records, it would be better. ;’) Simultaneous fortification of sites means either a need for defense against interlopers, or it means the sites were conquered by some unknown, stone-age imperial power which then built forts for the occupation garrisons.

The Vinca symbols, also known as the Danube script, are a set of untranslated symbols found on Neolithic artifacts from the Vinca culture and related cultures of Central Europe and Southeast Europe.
Whether this is one of the earliest writing systems is disputed. The symbols went out of use around 3500 BC.

Video which argues that the symbols are a writing system https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gyEcUR_wnsU&t=4s

Documentary on the Vinca which includes interviews with British and Serbian academics. One argues that the symbols are not a writing system. https://youtu.be/QedqnpacUUs

Whether or not this ancient civilization had a script, the topic is still a fascinating subject to delve into. Hopefully more academics study this issue in the near future.
