I remember George Will talking about a board meeting of the O's when they were playing the same way back in the 1980s.
They figured if they were losing with a lot of high priced "talent", they'd be ahead if they were losing with a lower cost payroll, so they got rid of most of non-performing stars, and brought up their minor league players.
