Hurricane warnings have been issued for Dominica and St. Lucia as Hurricane Dean races westward into the Caribbean Sea at 24mph. This motion should bring the center of Dean near the Lesser Antilles on Friday. The increased forward speed of the storm has lessened preparation time for Caribbean Islands in its path. Hurricane Dean has favorable conditions to develop into a major hurricane over the next several days.

My apartment has central air, but it was hot as heck earlier this summer even though until about the last 2 weeks or so summer has not been very warm outside really.
The AC was not working well at all, had a block of ice in it, etc. But, the key is....complain a lot. It finally was cleaned out properly and works great now.
I can’t imagine the suffering of people who do not have AC. It was unbearable those days. Just awful. When the air is not circulating, even 85 inside seems as bad or even worse than 90 outside.
Found an experimental one on NOAA’s site, but it’s US only.

Not good because if the eye tracks just south, they will get hit with the worst of the winds, as I am sure you are well aware.
That’s correct, 2PM tomorrow is what’s scheduled.
That eye ain’t gunna miss by much from the looks of the last up-date,,,they will still get the bad side...
If Dean remains a cat 5 and hits Jamaica head on, I think the death toll could be in the thousands.
What the MSM was claiming about Katrina could very well happen in a place like Jamaica.
The Jamaica Consulate General and the Diaspora Foundation Advisory Board, Southern United States are co-ordinating emergency relief for Jamaica, in light of the threat posed by Hurricane Dean.
Drop off points have been set up at several churches, including Holy Family Episcopal Church in North Miami, Kendall Community Church in Kendall, and
Holy Sacrament Episcopal Church in Pembroke Pines.
Items being requested include non-perishable food items, batteries, flashlights, first aid kits, battery operated radios, and bottled water.
Persons interested in making donations can make cheques payable to the Jamaica Consulate General (Hurricane Relief) and mailed to the office at 25 Southeast Second Avenue, Suite 609, Miami, FL 33131.
For further information, persons can call the Consulate office at 305-374-8431, extensions 223 and 232.
Diaspora Advisory Board member for the Southern USA, Marlon Hill, is urging members of community associations throughout the Diaspora to be on the alert in their specific communities to collaborate effectively, as preparations are put in place.
saying a prayer and marking my place.
Yeah, the unit at my house where I lived before this would ice up - I like it very cold! I learned to avert that by just turning it up sometimes when I didn’t want to.
I can tell here in the apt when it’s starting to do that, too. In this case, it had also been warm (and I’m really “warm-natured” or “hot-blooded,” I guess, lol!) inside when the summer had been relatively cool. It was just an old chiller unit going out - but they kept patching and it kept going out - till they got their new $200,000 unit.
I also learned in my house to pour Clorox down the overflow lines once in a while to keep the pan from filling up and dripping (the outlet is in my bathroom here, over the sink, but nasty stuff comes out!). Better than the house where the kitchen ceiling caved in from overflow in the attic.
Some of these things only have to happen once for you to learn the lessons!
After an especially bad flood, my old neighborhood took turns, each of us in charge of un-stopping the storm drains each week. Not fun, but made a HUGE difference.
Barbados & U.S. is on standby to provide supplies and assistance.

The MSM is sobbing in disappointment. But don’t worry, Bush will be to blame for the unpreparedness of Mexico!
Going to call it a night, ya’ll hold down the fort.
Oh poor loons...no gloom and doom with this cane.
Jamaica has the ‘hills’ to run for. Please God let/make them. They haven’t been hit in so long they’ve lost the institutional memory of ‘canes.
Note to self: Belize is not too worried about Dean; thinks he will stay far north of them. So, I won’t worry about Belize!
Cancun and Cozumel seem to have things well in-hand, from what I’m gleaning around a few places on the ‘Net. They certainly “know the drill” and have some nice new construction to fend this thing off. Prayers up for both, anyway.

I was on Cozumel two years after it got hit with a four. The damage was incredible. If they get hit by a four or a five, you should plan on doing charitable work while you’re there.
Here’s a prayer for the people of eastern Mexico. They need as many as they can get.
