This just in from the Golf Channel: Tiger Woods has elected not to play in the first FedEx playoff at Barclays. Speculation is that he thinks he will win (look at his lead, above) the playoff even if he takes this week off.
Full Leaderboard for the first day.
His lead won’t be that big.
The points reset after this week based on where a player finishes. Woods will get 100,000 points to start - #2 get’s 99,000, #3 gets 98,500 etc. They then earn points each week based on that tournament and the field reduces each week based on total points at the beginning plus those earned each week.
Woods is taking a chance by not playing week 1—especially if one of the top 5 or 6 players would win that week.
