INDIANAPOLIS -- Former Indiana Pacers star Reggie Miller is considering the Boston Celtics' request to exit retirement and play for the Massachusetts club, ESPN.com reported Wednesday.
Miller, who is set to turn 42 this month, retired at the end of the 2005 NBA season after 18 years with the Pacers. He holds NBA records for most 3-pointers made and attempted and is the leading scorer in Pacers history.
According to ESPN.com, Celtics general manager Danny Ainge and coach Doc Rivers asked Miller to join Boston in a reserve role for the upcoming season.
Signing Miller would add to the number of recent high-profile profile moves made by the Celtics, who added Ray Allen and Kevin Garnett this off-season.
Since he retired from the NBA, Miller has worked as an NBA analyst for TNT.
I wonder what they are offering him to come back? Anyone hear?
This makes no sense to me. The Celtics have already signed an aging two-guard who’s an outside threat (Allen). Why would they want another one?
Maybe he thinks there’s still a chance at the Ring?
Perhaps, from Miller’s perspective, that’s the potential draw...But even with KG and Paul Pierce I’d think they’re still a year off at best. Still I fail to see what Boston gets out of the deal. If they wanted another outside threat surely they could get a thirtysomething guard to fit the role.
