Well, one thing I can think of is premature birth, but Im not sure how far along you want your mother to be. There could also be lung complications...

I like having visuals on an initial basis, but Ive found that once I get into the characters developement, the picture changes and I get a slightly different image in my head. It was like that for another character...I originally chose Rachel Weisz as my lead female, but as the story progressed, her features changed somewhat and I have a complete different image in mind for her. I LOVE Debra Messings hair more than anything...its a beautiful auburn and I want that for Deidre, so I really chose Messing for that more than anything...hard to find hair that color. I dont like her features all that much, but I do so love that smile, and I have a tendency to make my females dour and without humor. I like my lead characters to have a bit of humor/goofiness to them...

I like Terry's persona as much as I like the way he looks, but he will probably change in looks and personality somewhat too...

has anyone read The Marshall Plan for developing a novel? I liked some of it suggestions/formula 1) Main Character 2) Romantic Character 3) Obstacle Character 4) Companion. If I follow that, I find I have no real Obstacle...I *may* have a companion character...I may even have several, but Im not really sure about that...

OOO I like Garret! I dont know anyone named Garret so I could easily form any image I want of him. I was thinking Liam is more artistic sounding...I was trying go for the old Irish/Welsh/English since thats who colonized much of Australia (as if America didnt have enough LOL)...?Thing is I can't HEAR Australian...guess Im gonna have to watch POL and For the Moment some more...ooh, the things I do for the sake of writing...woe is me! (not! hee hee!)

Okay - here's the basic premise for my story - Deidre is not only an archaeologist, she has a special dowsing rod, in the form of a wand made of stone, that tells her where to find missing people...or maybe mores specifically, the bones of missing people. Ive toyed with the idea of a more paranormal slant where she is also able to see ghosts when holding that rod, but Im not real decided on that. The basic plot line is that she is hired/requested/ordered to go on a mission with some K&R people to find someone - specifically who, I dont know yet - and ends up on an adventure with these guys and falls in love with one of them, probably the one who is the most skeptical of her powers the most.

And yes, I DID get my inspiration from POL, but I *am* very interested in the K&R business and think its rife with possibilities, especially when you have a team of people from various national backgrounds. I also think it complements what an archaeologist/forensic anthropologist does.

I worked with a Garrett...so I’d have a hard time writing a character without him slowly morphing into that guy, for better or for worse.

I have the opposite problem in real life. One of my coworkers is a dead ringer (voice, attitude, mannerisms, motives, everything) for Jayne Cobb in Firefly. Except Dave doesn't know enough about weapons or infantry tactics.

It's the story of my life. I discover a good SF series after it goes off the air. I missed eight years of Stargate SG1's run that way.

I've avoided that problem with SG Atlantis. Thanks to internet newsgroups, I've already watched the first four episodes of season four. Of course the first two were screeners, which is an interesting experience. I think I'm three or four months ahead of the Sci-Fi channel on this. Thank you, British commercial television.

LOL! Oh dear...

Firefly didn't get a fair attempt at a run. :-\

Oooops - “Proof of Life” - where Meg Ryan made it obvious that she really should stick to comedy.

So, I’m sitting here, semi-pouting that Virginia Tech led all through the game and lost in the last 27 seconds, and wife sends me a text message.

We got caught in traffic tonight on our way to the mall. There was an accident just two blocks from our house. She confirmed that there were fatalities.

Cars can be replaced. We are most fortunate.

Jaundice might work nicely! Thanks.

Ack, now I realize that the middle bit is way too short. Like two chapters. So I’ve got Event Set A, a four year gap, small Event Set B, a fourteen year “time passes” bit, and then Event Set C. But I think it’ll be clunky with a short piece of story surrounded by two time lapses.

And that’s the only way it works, since Event Set B involved characters that meet in Set A being married and having a kid, and the events in B are far too important to take place off screen.

I haven't touched my plot for a couple weeks now. Have been working on a (gift) baby afghan to get as much of that out of the way as possible before November. And then, Bam! right in the shower just now, I got great inspiration for a political prisoner camp and how the heroes can go break everyone out in Act II. I needed something more substantative than general harassment actions.

Izzit November yet?

Heh, showers are great for that sort of thing.

I need to clean house and write a term paper this weekend. And finish plotting of course.

The sad thing about election season is when your neighbors put up Hillary signs and you know for sure which ones are morons. Sigh.

On the other hand, there’s this big hand-made “Richardson ‘08” sign on my way to work. It looks like plywood with the letters stenciled on, fairly nice in a low-key way. Or it was until someone took a spray can and graffiti’d in “Obama” instead of “Richardson”. Heh.

Well, with all the grief Jr. has given me and all the worries I’ve had over the years, I’ve had a few encouraging signs recently.

He handled himself very, very well with this accident. In the immediate follow up and in the dealings with the insurance company when they asked for his statement.

Then, he comes home from class with a “Communists for Hillary” bumper sticker. He gets to vote in his first election next month.
