Yes, I think it can be fairly serious, and fairly resistant to a lot of drugs. I sure hope he gets it under control.

When I went into retirement 5-6 years ago, this was just starting to be seen.

Now it’s rampant. The majority of my patients that I had last night had it and it requires protective gear and rigorous hand washing.

Toward the end of my shift last night, I went to pull of my rubber gloves so I could wash my hands for the millionth time and my knuckles had bled on the inside and had stuck to the gloves.

Tough little bug...this particular staph. Prayers for your stepdad.

Well...I'm a bit concerned because he's 77, and has had two quadruple bypass surgeries. He has a pin in his hip and was scheduled for two (one at a time) knee replacements. When we were there last week it was painful to watch him stand up. This is a man who has worked like a horse all of his life and has just in the last year or so started to fall apart..

~sigh~

I may get a small kitchen table tonight as part of my remodeling project...saw one on Craigslist for 8 bucks with a couple of chairs, so I figure I can’t lose too much. It’d give me a bit of workspace that I don’t have otherwise (also a clutter collection surface, so I’ll hafta watch that), and I can put a tablecloth over it if it’s seriously worn.

So there’s that.

Ouch, 2J! Gotta get you some series hand lotion!

Right now I have them slathered in 2.5% hydrocortisone ointment.

But it all starts over tonight. I’m going to take some hydrocortisone lotion with me, just to try to keep up with it.

There’s always spray paint. It hides a multitude of sins and comes in really neat colors and textures.

What about something like bag balm or eucerine cream?

Hm...that’s an idea, too...though it’d probably have to wait for spring. I don’t have anywhere I could do a spray painting project indoors, really.

I could probably use some of the free paint I just got, too.

But tablecloths are easy. ;-)

If I get it, I’m also going to *try* to teach certain jumping critters that it’s off limits. We shall see how that goes.

Leave the tablecloth on for a while. A couple of running jumps when the cat ~and~ the cloth keep moving ought to do it.

Heheh...that will almost definitely happen to Halvah, if not to Tam. She’s about the most ungraceful cat I’ve ever known.

I’ll try to get pictures. ;-)

My technique is to put on the hydrocortisone ointment (it’s a prescription of Joshua’s) and then put on a layer of Aquafor.

But it’s all moot, because the constant hand washing starts over in about 45 minutes.

This is my last day of orientation on the evening shift. It’s been hard...not as friendly as day shift and harder to get someone to help me. But I didn’t sink.

Tomorrow night I work the night shift, come home Saturday morning and that will be my last orientation shift. And the final shift of 80 hours.

See you guys later.

About 4 hours to Caucus time. Can I go home yet. I wonder if anyone is planning to stand up and speak for Fred or if I will have to do it. Individual precincts are small so I might.

Yeah, tonight might not be the best night to dress like a nut.

Let’s take the spare Fred sign and use it to attract any other supporters :)
