I was thinking that in the last picture of him above - natural western pleasure - head set and all.

I just showed his pictures to Bob again - he says looks like his old BoBo Cat stud. When you have a chance, give me a run down on his bloodlines again - I know they are all old QH foundation, just can’t remember them.

LOL....funny you should mention that:). I’d never seen him go around with his head down like that. We didn’t have a clue back when we first started riding him about getting a head set on a horse, so just always rode with a tie down. As I was watching him move like that I hollered at Jenny, “what’s he doing with his head down like that”....she answered, “he’s sniffing the ground” :), I’d let Harley in there this week to eat some of the grass, I guess Rock was checking out the poop piles.

Once he got around he’s head came back up like he is in the videos. When I start riding him tomorrow, I’m going to do the flexing exercise I did with Harley to help his head set. We’ll see if you can teach an old dog new tricks:), or if he can even flex that big stud neck.

He has a lot of King in him. You have mentioned before that Bob had a horse that favored Rock.

What do you guys use to hide the taste of medicine?

estrogen, we have the same problem with Jake every year. He has COPD and he HATES the Trihist or anything we add to his food. We have had success gettig it down him this year by moistening some (about a cup) Calf Manna and adding the Trihist to that and mixing it with his grain. The Calf Manna has a strong licorice smell and he likes the taste.

We had a row of thunderstorms last night! Pretty loud storms for here, too, lots of booming and lightning!

I wanted to unplug the fence and the horses (Cyn mostly) seemed ill at ease running around, so we went and caught them and brought them in....

They always run out when it rains or hails on the building, but if they can just get over that, they realize it's not killing them.

Bay looks OK with it...

Pony was OK with it...

Cyn was mad ;~)

We got soaked :~D It was an adventure. I asked my honey if he thought we were crazy and what would he do without me and my wild ideas.

Here's a picture I took from the porch of the rain... It was really raining hard for over an hour after the lightning stopped. And it was really warm. Great for my freshly mowed pasture!

I use yogurt. Mix it in and give it to him, but first find a flavor that he likes. But the other ladies here will give you other remedies. :-)

We have tried, yogurt, applesauce, crushed treats, crushed peppermints, Jellow powder, mollases, you name it. So far the Calf Manna has worked the longest. It all depends on how picky he is and what he likes. Jake is not an easay keeper to begin with so we have to worry that he won't drop to much weight while we try to get the meds down him. This year he had to have a round of steriods that helped a little.

We have rain headed our way this morning. It will be nice for the pasture, same as yours. I only got part of mine mowed, but hopefully after the rain passes I can get the rest done and get some benefit.

The poor dogs were going nuts too in the house. Gidget wanted out to attack the storm, Homer wanted to leap into our laps... Barkley was howling too, and I don't know yet which camp he's in. Someone wet themselves too, on the carpet. Since that hasn't happened before during our scares, we think that was probably Barkley ;~]

Good Morning.

The weather was picture perfect for our camp out - trail ride this long weekend. Warm during the day, cool evenings with a beautiful full moon. Amy, Alison and I left Friday afternoon. Lots and lots of traffic. The place we stayed at, has changed alot in the 15 or so years since I was there last. Nice picket lines, wash rack, pavilion, playground and free!

Ben and the boys came down on Saturday morning, then a few other friends came. They had 5 4-wheelers among them. The track for riding was just one road over, so that made it very nice. You could hear the dirt bikes and ATV's from where we camped.

We were close to the KOA campground and they had programs all weekend. We all went to an "all you can eat" pancake breakfast on Sunday morning. Good thing we had a big breakfast, as we got lost riding. We rode on Saturday for a few hours and on Sunday and wanted to take another trail on Sunday. We were out for 8 hours! It was just awful. All the riding is done on private property. You have to go along the road at some points and the horses were spooking at the cars. We lost the trail markers at some point and ended up riding along the road for a long time. Finally, there were some people saddling up at their home and we stopped. They offered to take us back to camp. That was another hour away. I was so sore and we were all so tired. Poor Tubby is very sore. Alison was so great through this all. I was the one complaining. That is way to long for me to ride.

Those horses were exposed to so many new things. Dirt bikes, cars, ATV's, deer, motorcycles and at one point, we had to ride right past a whole kennel of yippy little dogs. Looked like a puppy mill to me. We even rode through this little town. Biscuit spooked so bad at a car, that she tripped herself and fell in someone's front yard. We had a map, but I guess a lot of people get lost on that trail. Markers being torn down and property owners blocking the trail from ATV's, didn't help. At least the dirt bike and ATV riders shut down, when we came across them.

A few pictures. Alison is holding "CC" (camping kitty) which made its home with us all weekend. I hated to leave her, but there are people who have permanent sites there, so I figured she would not starve.

The pavilion and playground. Behind that is the permanent camp spots. You have to get on a waiting list for those.

Our camp site. Our friends brought tents to sleep in. The nights went down to the 50's, but everyone was warm enough.

This was a little tight, but a very pretty part of the trail.

We were on the "Blue trail" as you can see by the marker on the left. The problem was losing those makers, when you came to a road or open area.

We stopped here on top of a hill to rest a bit. That is when 5 dirt bikes came. They shut down, but I think the horses spooked more at the way they were dressed, then the bikes. They pushed them past us. They were older people and even one lady.

Yikes! You ended up WAY lost! Did you accept the ride back?

Oh yes, we had to ride up the road a bit and catch the trail in the woods. There was not a marker, so we would have missed it. They were on horses too. A very nice couple and teen daughter. He is a trainer and was riding a nice gray Arabian.

At one point, I wanted to just shut down in this church parking lot and call for the trailer. Amy didn’t agree with that.. lol I just wanted off that road and that horse!

Getting lost is something I’ve always feared? It happened to us one time when we went with a group, and like you were out way longer then any of us wanted to be...we always refer to that ride as the “trail ride from hell”

I’ve always wished that the maps you get of areas gave mileage so you could know the approximate timing.

Well, that’s a long ride for anyone.

It’s uneasy being lost and not being sure how far you have to go!

All the loops were suppose to be 10-15 miles, according to the map. There was a lot of logging going on and that is where the markers got lost, I think. It is a very nice place and we are going back in a few weeks. From now on, we go out so far and turn around and come back until we learn the trails better.

LOL...Nikki seems to be the only dog I have that storms seem to bother. You can tell they make her nervous. I let her in the last one we had...well, I didn’t let her, she just shot in to the garden, so I was going to let her stay on the porch, then she shot in the house, and wouldn’t budge when I called her to the door:) So I let her stay.
