Hey there... just hearing reports of more severe storms down there... are your hatches battered?

Well, as much as they ever get. It looks to be just west of me, back over the MS state line. Prolly get here in another hour or so. We’ve been in under a tornado watch for most of the day, but it’s not even started raining her yet. But they let all the schools out around 12:30, so apparently they’re thinking it’s going to get pretty bad. Probably will right about time for me to go home.

They’re talking about hail an inch in diameter. If you get anything like that you HAVE to take pictures for me. I can’t even imagine.

Oh GAWD! I sure HOPE not!! That’d beat a car, or a HORSE, to death! But yes, if we get it I’ll definately take pictures.

Be careful out there, I don’t mean to make light of it. It looks like it’s going to be a wild afternoon for you.

It looks like the worst of it has blown over. It kinda split and went around the county where I work, but looked like it went right over where I live, so I guess I’ll find out if anything got blown away when I get home.

No - haven’t heard from Becky today.

Hope your place is fine.

You’re not going to believe this... we just had a little tornado reportedly touch down in Vancouver WA... just north of the Oregon border... a couple hours South of here!

Watching the news coverage now... The regular weather guy is out and the stand-in is having the day of her life. What a day to take the day off!

They’ve got a picture of a blown-down billboard frozen on half the screen... the red blob storm radar on the other half.. and hysterical and/or excited callers on the phone.

It’s a fairly populated area... it may have crossed I-5 right in Vancouver.

"...I swear man, I was sitting there watching my TV and all of a sudden it got real dark and the wind started blowing and then it sounded just like a train ran right over the house..."

The standard answer given to a news-person when interviewing a tornado victim. ;o)

That’s about it! We had one of those.

And we had people in the Fred Meyer parking lot getting hit by flying shopping carts. “Shopping carts were hitting my car, and rolling out into the road and hitting other cars”

This is a pretty big event for around here. I’m supposed to be heading to the store to get horse bedding... but I hate to tear myself away.

Nooooooo, I would never do that. Any time you get any kind of stuff like that happening it's a big deal to the folks it's happening to. I've been lucky. In all my 49 years of living in Tornado Alley, I've never actually been involved in one. I've been pretty darned close, like half a mile down the road, but never had one actually come over my house. {knocks on wood}

Looks like from the pics on the link on that thread you posted that they got marble-sized hail too. Not fun! I’ve had quarter-sized hail at my house before, but luckily not for long. Plus it wasn’t round ball-type hail. It was more flattened. So although it was fairly large in diameter, it wasn’t nearly as heavy as if it’d been solid. Plus I think the flat shape made it catch more air so it didn’t come down as fast. But that’s all purely speculation on my part.

We had a freak hail storm a few years ago. It came out of nowhere. Baseball size with a few that looked like soft balls. Never seen anything like it before.
