Is that a silver dun in the color picture?

No - I think it's probably a black. This is supposedly a silver dun according to a dun horse genetics site.

All is quiet tonight. Looks like the storm will hit tomorrow. And that’s better. My honey gets a good night sleep and anything’s better in daylight.

I still can’t sleep... gonna try again though.

Good Morning everyone, and happy Monday. I have to work today. :-(

Hair, I hope that everything turned out ok with your wind storm. We had a Nor'easter come through last weekend that brought a lot of wind and rain. It was the remnants of Hurricane Noel.

For those of you who may not read regularly, RoseinRoseBear has some cutting and cattle questions that need answering, so if you know anything about it, please feel free to answer! Sorry, Rose, that I can't help. Don't know a darn thing about that! :-)

Frog, I hope that your union situation has improved. I was thinking about you this morning. Unions can be uh, special when they don't get their way. I was a part of one in my last job, but it was a beat 'em or join 'em thing, because no matter what, you were charged a union fee if you were part of the union, or an agency fee for having the union there, and that was taken out of you check either way. I don't know if that's the way that it is everywhere. Didn't really care for it too much.

“It is interesting to look at her markings and try and figure shapes. Sort of like you do with clouds”

I’ve been trying to figure out what shape her blaze is. I think it’s a Grinch.

Good morning, hasn’t hit yet... expecting it to hit later this morning at this point.

Rose.... I don’t know a whole lot about cutting either!

Ideally, horses need grazing land too...but usually working horses are kept in smaller enclosed areas close to the ranch house, so they are easily accessible. The ranch I worked on had several areas of about 5 acres each that they kept the horses in, that were connected to the barn so the horses could get in if the weather warranted it. Horses not being used can be turned out in the large pastures with the cows.

Longhorns would not be used in cutting.

I couldn’t swear to it but I think a cutting arena is smaller they you are suggesting...

I don’t think it would matter if you used stud or stallion.

Yeah - listen to the news people and cut whatever they say in half, right? :~)

Rose, in modern useage the words stud and stallion have become interchangeable. But technically a stallion is the horse, and a ‘stud’ is a farm where breeding stallions are. A stallion is ‘kept at stud’.

I didn't know that!

Did you see on the HF that someone is buying Whitedress a horse?

Well, like I said, the words have become interchangeable. Only the British will still correct you ;~)

No.... Someone from the forum is buying her a horse? Why don’t they buy her lessons?

That is what she is saying...but also adding...”if things work out”. Go to the SC forum and look at the thread “please pray for us”. I’m not sure but the buyer maybe “toodlestoo”.

She also started a thread on the Tack forum asking about Tom Thumb bits.

You know I watched the video of her riding her friends horse this weekend, and she sits pretty good. I’m more concerned for her handling of the new horse then the actual riding. That’s where she needs lessons.

Agreed. Kids pick up riding. What concerns me is she doesn’t know anything, hasn’t learned anything yet in all these months, and has parents who won’t invest anything, including even regular footcare, in a horse. I don’t think she needs to bring another horse into that situation.

I saw the thread where she’s looking at an Appy. Seems like a good horse, $1,000. I didn’t know someone else might buy it. Sheesh.

And the bit thread, she has a curb and a snaffle, she says, and one of those will have to work because they won’t buy her another one. The curb is one of the freebies that comes with a cheap bridle. Who knows what kind of saddle she’s got... whatever they found in the attic of that barn when they moved in.

I agree, she definitely needs coaching on care and tack, and her parents need their heads bashed together, “if” what she says is true....I still have a feeling we don’t get the whole story.

Well it’s true we don’t get the whole story... But the signs aren’t good.
