Poetry by WayzataJohnn. Oh Brother of the Gun
Tribute to 68-69 Tonkin Gulf Yatch Club

Long our roads near the Tonkin Gulf, so far we've come
we've known the fury of battles at dawn's half light
the long hours on the watch through the night
though sometimes so stricken, as if we were dumb

We finally made it home, sort of I guess
though some did not, we still hold them near
remembering the bitter taste of our own fear
yet we went on, for we could do no less

The years passed, and still we remembered all
and honored our service with silent faith in right
shunned and spit on, we stood firm each day and night
listening to our country's long remembered call

We went on, built new lives and started over again
accepting our forgotten self amid the day
but remembering all too well each night I'd say
keeping so tight a hold to our silent hidden pain

We grew beyond the hard times, and built a new life
built a career in spite of ourselves, surprising us at times
knowing family and friends, such sweet, sweet rhymes
dealing with all the joys, challenges, and sometimes strife

We were Brothers of the Gun, sharing common toil
and we gave respect and honor to our brothers in care
you were my friend, my self, the other brother I'll remember fair
when the heartache and inner pain started to really boil
You've gone ahead, still inspecting, as was your way
making sure its up to regulations before we all get there
so I say thanks for the time we shared my friend fair
until we meet for a beer and some scuttlebutt another day

Ambiance of Love

Soft starlight twinkling
black velvet skies shrouding
lovers meeting in dewy dusk
fading to black together.

Blossoms in Their Time

Like the rare flowers of the century plant
anniversaries come in their time
bound up in gentle rhyme
shared by those who refuse to accept ‘can’t’

Wordsmiths, some young or now old
crafting thoughts and dreams with but words
to share and speak until we perceive the art heard
to dare so open and honest and bold

Each a stone in the flagstone floor of poetry
upon which we build a house of appreciation
placed with quiet hope and somber dedication
before we slip away to see what else may be

WayzataJohnn

So lovely are your poems, words
so carefully chosen and placed
upon each and every line

as a floor on which to build
a poem, or a hill from which
to gaze in other worlds
and see the path ways strewn
with gems laid down on
velvet hems of robes worn
by princes rare, and poets
with a golden pen.

and sharing easy fun

sad dance in the breeze
two lovers who have to part

Wild Sweet Peas..Near The Beach At Sunset Frame by Meg33

Before Sunset by Algernon Charles Swinburne

Love's twilight wanes in heaven above,
On earth ere twilight reigns:
Ere fear may feel the chill thereof,
Love's twilight wanes.

Ere yet the insatiate heart complains
'Too much, and scarce enough,'
The lip so late athirst refrains.

Soft on the neck of either dove
Love's hands let slip the reins:
And while we look for light of love
Love's twilight wanes.

Congratulations to all on the Fourth Anniversary of the Lair. May we all continue to contribute our poetry, humor and art for Lairites to enjoy and be present to celebrate the Fifth Anniversary.

This is my first real poem. I am definitely not a poet, but I have tried and am proud of myself.

First photos that look like our cats:

Photo of a cat that looks like Simba

Photo of a kitten that looks like Shadow upon awakening.

ODE TO THE CATS

Our cats have a
very, very nice house
Simba sleeps on his chair
Shadow sleeps on the couch.

Simba, the elder
chases the kitten around
or sometimes Shadow
pounces him to the ground.

Shadow hides Simba's toys
where they cannot be found.
We find them in the couch
with all the Velcro unbound.

The feathers are everywhere
the Velcro must have failed
for Shadow has sharp little teeth
and hides them in her dark kitty veil.

Her name is Shadow or Mouse
because you can't see her.
She has lots of hidey-holes
which blend into her silken kitty fur.

The reason we have Shadow
is Simba and she were dotting
cat nose prints on the window.
We opened the screen door anticipating.

Simba watched her walk in.
We thought "uh-oh, a cat fight perhaps?"
The opposite is true
because they are best of friends.

HAPPY 4th ANNIVERSARY,
SOARING FEATHER!
