I think he would crush Savage in Atlanta, if Levin was on an equally powerful radio station. 640am cuts its power at sundown. 750am (Savage) is allowed to keep up the power.
I have never heard what the reason for some stations cutting back and others powering up after sundown. I assume it is some old FCC mandate.

I assume it is some old FCC mandate.My understanding is that stations that stay up at night have "clear channel" licenses at night, meaning they are the only AM station in the US broadcasting at night on that frequency. Other stations are only allowed on that frequency during the day; therefore they only operate during those hours. Some of the clear channel AM stations can be picked up clear across the country at night on a decent receiver.
