NEW YORK - Genial comic Drew Carey was tapped Monday to replace silver-haired legend Bob Barker on the CBS daytime game show "The Price is Right." Carey confirmed the deal during a taping of the "Late Show" with David Letterman.
The selection attracted more attention than usual for a daytime show because of the prospect of replacing Barker, 83. Barker retired after 35 years in the job last month following taping of his 6,586th episode.
The opening attracted widespread interest, including from comic Rosie O'Donnell after she left "The View."
Carey, 49, spent a decade on his own ABC sitcom and also was host of the game show "Whose Line is It Anyway?," a comic improvisational show.
He will also be host of a new CBS prime-time game show, "The Power of 10," that will air first next month. He told The Associated Press that CBS officials first contacted him about "The Price is Right" immediately after he completed a pilot of the other game show this spring.
“Likes girls too”
Yea, ones that you have to pay!
Like Murtha.
Rosie wanted to turn it into a talk show. She wanted to eliminate 2 contestants each half of the show so she would have more time to “chat” on the show. She also wanted it moved to New York and host of other radical changes. Rich Fields, the announcer, said when she made that statement “That was all CBS needed to hear” to know they wouldn’t even consider her.
I liked drew carey as a stand up comedian. He lost me when he started doing sitcoms. He really lost me when he started dating the mom from the partridge family.
WHO CARES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I think the marines that told me this are of the opinion that once a Marine, always a Marine.
Come on down to see this thread.
Sorry about the blanket statement...
And also to clarify further, I never meant that Drew wasn’t a good replacement, I think he’ll do pretty good...he just rubs me the wrong way and I find him trying to hard to be funny, thereby making him not funny imo.
I used to drive Limos in Dallas, I drove him for a week while he was in town for a speaking engagement. He was not only the one of the best clients I ever drove, but he was also one of the biggest tippers I ever drove.
He refused to ride in the back of the Limo so I had to swap to a regular Town Car where he rode in the front seat all week. We had a blast. At the end of the week he got ticked at me because I had DFW Airport Security meet him to take him to the VIP waiting room, he refused to go, he wanted to wait for his plane with everyone else until the security guy told him the Troy Aikman was in the VIP room waiting for plane too. He went with him, but only stayed long enough to get Aikman's autograph.
Drew C better stay off the sauce. Not that a DUI has hurt Alex Trebec’s career...
When my coworker mentioned it in passing yesterday (I’d seen a bit of a few episodes of “Price is Right” and couldn’t stand it) it seemed like an ideal choice. Drew won’t have to be all that funny (he’s not), and *probably* won’t have anyone to rely on to carry the show (as he did with the DC show and his version of WLIIA).
I hope he lacks character and makes some remarks on the first show, slammin’ Rosie. Probably won’t though, he seems like a good guy.
Sounds great!
It’s great hearing him deliver that anti-Clinton rant in the book-on-tape version.
