I am reading a great book about called
"Past the Uniform"....there is an excerpt, well many excerpts, in this book you will never forget....your post reminded me of it. You should buy this book ($20) since half it's proceeds go to Sgt. Ryka's family...he was gunned down while on duty and the scumbags never caught(yet).
