I just called the Animal Hospital of Cotati.
Adam is fine.
His pain is manageable.
He does not need to be put down.
The receptionist mentioned that there are about a million (exaggeration I'm sure) people who have offered to adopt Adam including me and my wife.

As for the two girls, I hope that they are in protective custody, and I hope that they are going to get the help that they need.
I see a lot of anger toward the kids, but I believe monsters are made.
Happy, well-adjusted kids don't do this and it would not surprise me if we found that one or both were horribly abused themselves.
