Teen Girls Accused Of Setting Kitten Ablaze.
COTATI, Calif. -- A three-month-old kitten is fighting for his life after allegedly being set afire by two teenage girls last week.
The male shorthaired kitten, named Adam, received second- and third-degree burns over 75 percent of its body and was being treated at an animal hospital in Cotati, in Northern California's Sonoma County, officials said.
The kitten has undergone two surgeries and had its tail and the tips of its ears amputated.
Two girls have been charged with cruelty to animals in connection with the case. They were arrested last Friday after allegedly pouring flammable liquid on the cat, only 8 weeks old at the time and setting it on fire.
A boy and his friend said they saw the smoke and heard the cat shrieking while the girls laughed.
The girls are being held in Sonoma County's Juvenile Hall. The maximum penalty carried by the charges against them is three years of confinement.
With all due respect, your disregard for the life of a living being is a bit upsetting.
I know, but it’s not murder, like it would be for a human being. I understand how attached people are to their animals, and that they don’t consider them *just* animals, yet it doesn’t have the euthanesia issue behind it.
People put down animals that are sick or too badly injured all the time. I’m just thinking that it would be more merciful than letting it suffer. Burn pain is supposed to be beyond the reach of pain killers. I can’t imagine what this kitten is suffering.
Stick em in the same cell with Michael Vick.
Girls WERE different at one point. I’ve seen a change in that over the last several years.
There is a requirement to keep human beings alive as long as possible, with the exception of extraordinary means. But that doesn’t extend to animals. If this poor kitten had been mine, I would have put it out of its pain and misery.
I agree that there is either a serious screw loose with these girls or they are serial killers in the making, or both. No normal person could possibly do something like this.
Kids with proper parenting have a chance of not getting harmed and living a long life.
A kitten TRAPPED IN A CAGE AND SET ON FIRE doesn't have that opportunity when preyed upon by little monsters with no morals.
See 21.
I’m a cat lover and I agree with you.
Hundreds of perfectly healthy cats are euthanized every day just because homes can’t be found.
This one should have been euthanized as an act of mercy to the poor thing.
These girls are pre-killers of humans. Most killers of humans, kill animals like this....Useless killing or torture is a precursor.
Putting it out of its misery is *disregard for a living being*? We’re not talking about a human being here. There’s no disregard for life. Have you read what’s being done to that poor thing to TRY to save it? For what? It doesn’t understand what’s happening to it.
We’re not talking the moral implications that would be associated with *putting down* a human burn victim. Putting animals in the same category as humans beings is ridiculous.
A sick, sick world we live lin.

It’s not written in stone yet.
I used to burn ants with a magnifying glass when I was little. I never did that to a human when I got older. OR even anything else for that matter.
You have an incredibly low opinion of people if you think a normal boy would ever torture an animal. Every human should be brought up with a simple respect of the other living beings on our planet.
I agree with what you are saying metmom. I have cats (and dogs). I feel horrible about what happened to this little kitten. I think the bitches that did it should be locked up an extremely long time (because that kind of cruelty will be done to a human next), but for the kitten's sake, if he's burned that horribly, he should be put down.
You must be quite young to compare ants to kittens or dogs or anything else that is considered an “ANIMAL”. ANTS ARE BUGS.....look it up.
What’s age got to do with it? But no, I’m old.
You do realize we eat animals don’t you?
I will retract my statement that the animal be put down. AFter seeing the pics of the recovered critter, I’d say the damages done to it were greatly exaggerated. If it really were that badly burned, there wouldn’t be so much fur growing due to the massive scar tissue.
The Devil!
