Aw yes, Microsoft.

The company which has the largest Quality Control department on the planet.

They're called Windows users.

The link given in the article is incorrect--it won't get you to the video. Here is the correct link, but beware--the video is about 52 minutes long.

I see no reason to use Vista when XP is adequate.

I wonder what Bill Gates runs on his PC, or if he has a staff of 20 techies who make sure his works fine.

I just got a laptop with Vista. I find the Vista user interface a pain in the patoot, and I can’t find drivers for some of my old hardware items I want to run with it. I’m considering wiping Vista and installing XP Pro instead.

Agreed. My last MS OS was W2K. I saw no need to go any further.

'Production is just another testing cycle.'

Pretty as Vista is, it IS buggy.

heh--I find that with most MS operating systems. Windows just doesn't work the way I work. That's why I use Linux. I can customize it to work the way I work--I don't have to change to fit the operating system.

Ever since the problems with Vista came to light, I have been refusing to accept and download the "Windows Updates" that Microsoft sends to registered XP users.

Am I being too paranoid or are others doing the same?

While it would take a lot more time, it is possible to get only what you want/need by researching each security update to see if it's gonna add anything you don't want, and then apply only those updates you do want.

SO glad that I bought my Dell B4 this Vista piece of garbage! I’ll stick with Windows XP, thank you very much. Maybe in a couple of years when they’ve worked out all the bugs with the thing I’ll think about getting a new PC. For now, I’m happy. Well, maybe not delirious but it’ll do ...

Pirillo is geekier than the average user.

And how. This was a schmuck even for TechTV's low standards.

I see 200 reasons to not make the richest man in the world any richer when XP is sorta adequate.

XP is bloated, also. Just not nearly as bad. Win2K was much better, only not as much eye candy.
Give MS their due, they have great development tools for their system.

What’s there to say? Huge success for Microsoft, already eclipsed all installed versions of Linux which they can’t even give away for free. LOL at those who claimed Linux use would skyrocket, if there’s anything that people try then dump it’s Linux.

Back at the turn of the century i got a free copy of win ME. That was the biggest piece of crap of all time; so I had to migrate to XP to keep my sanity...and not have the blue screen of death and numerous reboots.

> Huge success for Microsoft...

That's yet to be determined. The actual usage figures (not the fake inflated "number of copies and upgrade tickets distributed") are woefully behind MS's predictions from even a few months ago.

Of course Vista will eventually be on most Win-PCs. That's because Microsoft will withdraw support for XP, by making XP more incompatible than Vista is. That's how they've done it in the past.

But true success is determined also by user pleasure, not just how many free upgrade tickets MS gave away, or how many home users buy a new PC and have to accept Vista because they have no choice.

Those who have a choice are choosing XP, even to the point where companies like Dell have had to re-allow XP on new computers, or else lose sales like crazy. Microsoft's strong-arm techniques couldn't even prevent that, and it's been a huge black eye to Redmond.

Vista will become ubiquitous, yes. But it will never be a "success" in the sense that Win98 was, or WinXP still is. It will simply become the only choice, by virtue of Microsoft's virtual monopoly position.

> ... already eclipsed all installed versions of Linux...

Good lord, GE, surely you of all people are not going to set the threshold of success THAT LOW??!? Even the most hardcore Linux fanatic would laugh at the idea that Microsoft's success should be measured by how much they can kick the ass of a tiny competitor.

Admit it, the only reason Microsoft is still in business after the Vista fiasco launch is that they are effectively a monopoly and everybody is still running XP. What, 93% or something? Of course their figures swamp everyone else's.

If I remember right, you claim to have (or had) Mac and Linux computers, as well as Windows machines. Tell me, have you converted all your computers over to Vista exclusively yet? And if not, why not?
