Pretty much the way I see it. Again, the person who has followed this case most closely is the great Mark Steyn who has been live blogging it for Macleans. You can scroll thru the site to see a day to day view of the case and his analysis.
Here’s Mark’s latest post:
“Lead Black counsel Ed Genson has just pointed out to reporters that the US government is still holding $9 million it seized upon the sale of Conrad’s Park Avenue apartment - a charge on which the defendant was just found not guilty. Presumably the Feds will now promptly return that money to him, won’t they?
Or maybe now. Chief prosecutor Eric Sussman is now demanding Conrad be taken into custody immediately as a “flight risk”. If he was a flight risk, he’d have fled long ago. Most European countries wouldn’t extradite to the US over a cockamamie case like this with trumped up charges like racketeering. Conrad Black chose not to flee because he believed himself to be an innocent man, and he believed in the US justice system. (I also believe him to be innocent, especially of the charge on which he was convicted - the APC payments - which was a bookkeeping wheeze dreamt up by David Radler that I’d wager Conrad wasn’t even aware of until afterwards.)
But the point is: he still believes himself to be innocent, and Conrad Black is not a man who flees. Hot from his triumphant victory (winning ten rounds out of 42), his tormentor Sussman, having mischaracterized Black on the CanWest deal, on the Bora Bora trip, on Barbara’s birthday and much else, now insists on mischaracterizing Black in defeat.”

SOMETHING HAPPENED.
The prosecutor didn't do it. The ex-minister of Canada didn't do it. Heck, YOU didn't do it...
WHO DID?
If you think the CEO should be responsible for massive looting of the company... DING DING DING WE HAVE A WINNER!!!
Is that possible grounds for an acquittal ?
Whole case had a stench about it, like they were after this guy and would do whatever it took to find him guilty of something.
First of all I agree with this statement. He had the National Post. Canada's main and only large newspaper, that ran moderately conservative journalists. He was forced out and it went to a prominent Liberal family. A caveat though. They ain't been too bad. Yet the Post has drifted slightly left (imho). Next, I somehow feel for the jury. Honest souls all. What pressure must have been on these good folks. Under the circumstances, though I hoped for "not guilty", they gave it their best.
As to the press..... we in Canada saw the admission that some of them were doing their best to force Conrad Black to "blow up". Any decent human being would at least try to put themselves in his shoes. Sure, go ahead and do journalistic work (sarcastic laugh). They pressured him and his wife.
Hyenas and Jackals.
My lack of knowledge of the niceties of the law compel me to state this.
The case belonged in civil court
I am hoping for this man. Prison he does not belong.
Another Patrick Fitzgerald special. Political hatchet job gets Black (and Libby) on incidentals.
