Astonishing that he can run that fast without calf muscles. It would be intersting to see how he starts out of the blocks, since he has no toes.

The spring-like replacement foot sort-of helps in that regard. The extra downward force exerted by the thigh muscles is stored as energy in the spring, helping the runner “spring forward” with great efficiency, doing all this in place of the calf muscles.
