I don't know of any effective drug which is completely safe in all cases, and medicating children to control their behavior (e.g. Ritalin) is not a practice which should be encouraged, I think.
In my experience, it's possible to just have kids run around and play and tire themselves out at the airport right before the flight - a few airports have a children's play area, and some out of the way area can usually be found otherwise.

Motion sickness medicine is Benadryl. Same active ingredient.
