Please DO NOT read this thread if you have not seen the movie. Even if you have read this book, topics under discussion can affect what you will expect in the last book.
Several pet theories for the Deathy Hallows have, perhaps, been laid to rest by the release of this movie. A number of plot points I had thought were important to the end of the series were completely left out of Order of the Phoenix.
1. There is absolutely NO reference to the cleaning of Grimmauld Place. Thus, any speculation about the locket horcrux being hoarded by Kreacher must be false.
2. The prophecy was never heard in full. The portion of the prophecy which could have referred to Neville instead of Harry was omitted.
3. There was no mention of Percy's estrangement from his family. Percy was shown at Fudge's side at important points, but unless his face was remembered from previous movies, people not reading the book may not have caught that.
There were two plot changes which puzzled me. Cho was the one who gave Dumbledore's Army away, not the unimportant character of Marietta. Also, Sirius, before he falls through the veil calls Harry, "James". I assume these changes have a point, but I don't know what.
There was also no reference to Hermione and Ron being Prefects. There was no Quidditch at all, so Ron would not be on the team.
PRESS RELEASE:
Scholastic has recently learned that some individuals have received copies of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows through the mail , beginning on Tuesday, July 17th, as a result of a breach of the on-sale agreement by the distributor, Levy Home Entertainment, and shipments made by DeepDiscount.com, a customer of that distributor. We are taking immediate legal action against DeepDiscount.com and Levy Home Entertainment. The number of copies shipped is around one one-hundredth of one percent of the total U.S. copies to go on sale at 12:01 am on July 21st.
We are also making a direct appeal to the Harry Potter fans who bought their books from DeepDiscount.com and may receive copies early requesting that they keep the packages hidden until midnight on July 21st.
Scholastic is especially grateful to the other retailers and distributors for their careful attention to keeping the books secure until the release time and for planning thousands of spectacular midnight parties where fans will celebrate together. And we ask everyone, especially the media, to preserve the fun and excitement for fans everywhere.
The fans themselves have made it abundantly clear that they are looking forward to going to the midnight parties, receiving their very own copy of the book and finally getting to read the book they have so anxiously awaited.
I’m going to be pretty frickin’ mad if mine doesn’t arrive on the 21st. I might go Postal on the Postman.
I'll be getting mine at midnight, but now I feel like I need to hide to avoid unwanted information.
Reminds me of the Olympics.
I know what you mean. I feel like I need to keep my eyes shut and my hands over my ears going, “LALALALALALALALALALA! I CAN’T HEAR YOU! I CAN’T HEAR YOU!” at the top of my lungs.
Sure does.
I haven't seen any of the spoilers and I'll continue to avoid HP sites until I'm done with the book. Bummer!!
The good thing is that so far people seem to have been pretty good about keeping a lid on the info for those who don’t want to know it. BUT, the leaks just started coming out yesterday. Hopefully, they can keep their mouths shut for a few more days.
Yeah, I lost on that gamble when OotP came out. Now I just go pick it up first thing Saturday morning.
I was really hoping it was a hoax til I read the press release you posted.
Ticks me off, but not surprising.
If that happens, I’ll go buy one at B&N or Borders, then when my pre-ordered copy arrives, return it for a refund with the B&N receipt. I’ll make up some reason like, “She killed Hagrid. I want a refund.”
JK Rowling's lawyer confirms that genuine material from the final Harry Potter book has been posted online
Nope, I’ve been getting scuttle from friends about spoilers on the radio and such and I just don’t want to know.... the only thing officially I read was that JKR kills off two characters and I’m betting its Voldemort and Snape....
Ignorance is bliss right now....
Just a few more days....
I think the two were good guys. I think Voldemort dying is a given.
My predictions are that Neville ends up as Herbology Professor (as stated by another Freeper a couple of posts above this one), Snape dies saving Harry, Percy dies while redeeming himself, and Hagrid dies. I can't even think about Harry, Ron or Hermione dying in the book, unless it's a scene where Harry dies after retelling the story of his life (as has also been predicted by Freepers).
We're going to Wal-Mart at 12:01 and buying one of their copies, along with the audio tapes. I'll be reading the spoiler threads, though. I don't mind knowing what's coming up in the story.
Ugh... I really didn’t want to think of anybody else dying except Voldemort (or course) and Snape making the ultimate sacrifice to show all that he was a good guy.
For maximum impact (if thats what JKR is going for) its one of the five (Ron, Hermione, Ginny, Neville, or Draco).
I can’t see it being Hagrid, but I can see it being one of the “kids”.
(Counting the hours.... Amazon please don’t be late....)
If you don't want clues to what is going to happen stay away from it.
They are talking about over half a dozen of the characters dying.
Kind of like a Mr Chips. interesting plot line if it comes true.
I have to hand it to Leaky Cauldron and MuggleNet. They have completely refrained from spoilers. Melissa Anelli and Emerson Spartz (the Webmasters respectively) are class acts.
I wouldn’t mind seeing Malfoys dad being knocked off.
