ATLANTA, Georgia (CNN) -- A former suspect in the killing of JonBenet Ramsey was arrested early Saturday in suburban Atlanta, Georgia, after a 911 call of domestic violence, police said. John Mark Karr, 42, is charged with battery and obstruction of a 911 call, Lt. Keith Zgonc of the Sandy Springs police said.

Karr was arrested in Bangkok, Thailand, last year in connection with the 1996 slaying of the 6-year-old beauty queen.

JonBenet's beaten and strangled body was found December 26, 1996, in the basement of her parents' home in Boulder, Colorado.

Karr was taken to Colorado, but his DNA failed to match that found on the child's underwear.

After his arrest on Saturday, Karr was taken to St. Joseph's Hospital complaining of chest pain, Zgonc said.

Zgonc said it was expected that Karr would be transported to Fulton County Jail later Saturday.

Karr and a woman police identified as his girlfriend were arguing at Karr's father's residence in Sandy Springs, Zgonc said.

Karr's father became involved, and the argument between the two men became "physical," Zgonc said.

When a 911 telephone call from the residence was made, Karr threw the phone on the floor, Zgonc said.

Zgonc did not know who made the phone call.

I guess he and his dad went at it after Karr's getting into it with his girlfriend.

You know, I still don't understand why truth serum isn't used on these nasty ugly people. Another case of 'you're violating my rights?' but it's ok that this sicko says he murdered a child and then says 'oops! No I really didn't?' The police are hamstrung all too often and it's NOT RIGHT!

Yup. You bet. One of my favorite lines in a movie was when Charles Bronson said in Death Wish, ‘you’d think they were an endangered species!’

Any moment of any day somewhere there is a small innocent child being abused, molested, terrified, hurt. We’ve got to do better than we do at protecting them.

I thought he was on the waiting list for a "sex change" operation in Bangkok when arrested there???? Ah well, more proof that the world is just too complicated for me.

Is it just me? Or are there more perpetrators out there than there were 20, 30 or 40 years ago? I remember walking to the grocery store alone at age nine, riding my bike with friends (or alone) until dark at age eight. We always walked to the movie theater on Saturdays, alone, and met our little friends there.

It is the sole responsibility of the parents (or care givers), NOW, to never never never let the little ones out of their sight - not for even a moment.

Yep me too. During the summer we would disappear into the neighborhood and not return for hours and our Moms never worried.

When our ancestors first set out on the frontiers to build this nation, children were always kept in or near the home and always in sight for fear of predatory animals. But eventuality through courage, hard work, and progress we overcame those dangers.

Now thanks to the hippy generation we are back where we started.

Me three. There were four of us growing up and I'd disappear all by myself on my bike til dinnertime and sometimes later, bike all over the place and back again, solo, without a care in the world.

I do remember once while walking a block away from my gramma's house (Bayshore NY Long Island) some creep pulled up alongside me and asked for directions. When I told him how to get to the mall, he called me closer to the car where I could see that he was enjoying himself at his own hand immensely (I was about 13/14) and he asked if I'd get in and help him find it. I said I thought I heard my mother calling and backed away, memorized his license plate and description of the creepazoid and his car and when I got home five minutes later, told my mom who called the police. Don't know if they ever did anything about it though, times were different and I guess this was rarely heard of then. Today it's hoped that they'd hang him but as we see, it doesn't always stand to reason depending on the judge.

But yes, we had much freedom that the kids today cannot enjoy and it a goshdarn shame. They miss out on so much.

That's right! I'd forgotten about that. Well, maybe his 'girlfriend' is one who has already had the operation? Dunno. Just spreading vicious rumors here ... that is one sick puppy, by anyone's definition. Real drama queen. Had to go to the hospital for chest pains. Methinks he's a carrier.
