The ancient civilization of Sheba or Saba was fascinating. It was very wealthy from the frankincense trade and import/export between the Med and East. A great dam at Marib, a city of ancient skyscrapers, fed a large agricultural region. The dam collapsed in the sixth or seventh century and the people scattered.

The History Channel did a breathless story on this. Unfortunately, it's only safe to visit with an armed escort.
