Fortunately, the strike knocked out power for only a few seconds and appeared to cause no damage other than the loss of a couple of terracotta roof tiles.

And maybe a frayed nerve or two?

Nope. Until the firetrucks arrived, I didn’t realize that the sirens tolled for us.

Typical. God sends you a message, and you sleep through it...

Don’t know. Two computers were in use along with the cable modem and a router, all of which are plugged into cheap surge protectors. Two TV’s (unprotected) were also on. They too survived.

Evenin' y'all. It is finally Friday. I have enough to do to keep me busy all weekend, but it ain't happening. My November leave just got bumped...3rd time in a row, because our area manager decided to volunteer me to clean up the mess in a couple of adjacent counties. He was b*tching about me having investigations that were a couple of weeks overdue (which are closed now)...some of the ones I inherited are 1 1/2 YEARS overdue!!! I am seeing a LOT of overtime in my future. The extra money will be nice at Christmas though. And there is one other perk. I am getting to take 2 WEEKS off at Christmas! That never happens. And they won't dare bump me out of vacation again. My supervisor will see to that. I just may do something really stupid, like go to Colorado for Christmas. It'd be nice to spend Christmas with the kids....if I don't get snowed in...or out.
Another positive about being out of the office for those 2 weeks is being able to avoid all the fattening Christmas goodies. I'm back on the wagon (foodwise, that is), because I have a new challenge. Despite little sister's new "enhancements," she still wears a size smaller jeans than I do..and she is several inches taller. This is not acceptable. Her size 0 regulars are a "little" tight, though, while my 2 petites are a bit loose, so the gap is closng. And if she's in flats and I'm wearing heels, we actually LOOK the same approximate height. In any event, I refuse to allow the holidays to compromise all my hard work this year to get in shape.
What's everybody doing this weekend? Shark roast, anyone?

Like being pulled over by a cop and being given a warning instead of a ticketIt does seem odd that on the very day I obtained my Florida Driver's License and my car tag that has "Sunshine State" in bold letters, huge dark thunderstorms occupy the entire day and a bolt of lightning tries to take the roof off.
Coincidence ... or something more sinister?
To: sweetliberty
I’m sorry about your inability to have time off....though Christmas in Colorado is wonderful! (just there for mine last year).
This year, I’m planning on Times Square when daughter flies into town...we’ll drive to that insane place (her idea, not mine).
This weekend, more homework stuff....ugh.
Such fun. not!
To: nicmarlo
I wish we could do something different and exciting...like a cruise to Hawaii! *Sigh* Maybe one of these days.

hah. I don’t do cold either, but, the cold sure “does one on me.” I’m telling you between the lake effect here and just the darn cold of NY in the winters, I’m surprised I ever thaw!

What's everybody doing this weekend? I took five people out for dinner last night - so I am freeloading this weekend. Probably eat what we have in the doggy bags, the meat is too good for dogs.
No they wouldn´t do that - would they? :)
I will be going to Malta again next month to check up on the work being done in the new apartment. I am only going for a week so I don´t get in the way of the workers, my daughter and her husband. They should have finished the hard stuff by then so they can give all their attention to ME...
