I was thinking Ollivander went missing because Voldemort’s and Harry’s wands were brothers and therefore won’t work against each other properly. I was thinking that would be something Voldemort would want either fixed, changed or whatever.
LOL! Two of my kids are going to a “do” at the library this afternoon. Maybe another of the tape sets I requested will be in.
If not, I can get “Oliver North’s War Stories 2.”
<TolkienGeek> Gandalf was both dead and not dead. Being an Ainu (an order of spirit in the same vein as the Valar, the immortal powers of the world, but essentially a lesser version), he could not truly die within the boundaries of Arda, that is, the world. However, when sent to Middle-Earth as the emissary and steward of the Valar to help defend to free peoples from Sauron (an Ainu of great power), the Istari (wizards) were required to assume mortal forms.
This mortal form did indeed die as a result of the confrontation with the Balrog, but Gandalf was rejuvenated and reformed, this time with the authority of the head of the order of the Istari, given Saruman's treachery. </TolkienGeek>
Making Harry a horcrux would certainly not have been intentional! But if he wanted to use Harry's murder as the mechanism for creating a horcrux (and why not? talk about your significant killings in Voldermort's mind -- the one child destined to be his foe!), then perhaps the "energy" to create the horcrux was built into the curse. When the curse failed and rebounded on Voldemort, that kife energy still remained behind in Harry.
And, as for things from all four houses, what could be more Griffindorish than Harry himself? (I assume we will find out that is Harry the true "heir to Griffindor")
What's kife energy?
I loved her historical fiction.
The Last of the Wine (1956) set in Athens during the Peloponnesian War; the narrator is a student of Sokrates
The King Must Die (1958) the mythical Theseus up to his father's death
The Bull from the Sea (1962) the remainder of Theseus' life
The Mask of Apollo (1966) an actor at the time of Plato and Dionysius the Younger
Fire From Heaven (1969) Alexander the Great from the age of four up to his father's death
The Persian Boy (1972) from Bagoas' perspective; Alexander the Great after the conquest of Persia
The Praise Singer (1978) the poet Simonides of Ceos
Funeral Games (1981) Alexander's successors
Quick request — despite all of my theories, please do not ping me with any book spoilers to discuss how badly wrong I’ve been (or even, on the wild improbability that I’m right). I probably will be slower than most to get through the book due to the way we do things at my house (we read it out loud, so it might take up to two weeks).
Apparently something that a lack of caffeine makes you lose. Kife deprivation affects your typing ability, resulting in the letter "L" inadvertently being transposed to the letter "K" occasionally.
My oldest son is into Greece. Is the content suitable for a 13-year-old?
Thanks. Now it makes sense!
I dont recall any over the top material that would be unsuitable.
I will guarantee it will increase his understanding of that time period especially customs and daily life.
My stomach is in knots right now and I've been weepy all morning!! I hope I don't make a fool of myself at the bookstore tonight...:)
Take deep breaths ...
That statement would make me lol except that I'm in the same boat. :( I will be waiting at the mailbox tomorrow for the mailman, with tissue in hand.
I got a call from Border's last night. It was a pre recorded message from Jim Dent (is that the name of the guy who does the audiotapes?) telling me when I could pick up my book.
It was really cool, but totally pushed me over the edge!!
I was a bit weepy last night myself. What goofballs we are!
We went to B&N to get our wristbands for tonight’s big event. We stood in line for about 15 minutes—I had coffee and the kids had scones. It was so much fun and everyone in line was just as excited as we were. I heard lots of bashing of the NYT. =) There were stacks and stacks and stacks of boxes covered in yellow “caution” tape. Very cute. =)
I’m taking my kids to an HP party at the library now. I honestly don’t know when we’ll get a book. My husband is in charge of all that ... I think I’m 2,087 on the library’s reserve list though.
I’m just gonna blame it on pms!!
Have fun!! Hope you get a book soon!
He was home schooled.
Didn't say how much he made but said it was enough to get his through Notre Dame.
