The countdown is on! We're all waiting. Let's talk about it while we're waiting.
This countdown ticks down the time to both the Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows book and Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix film.

And another bump for 501.
Well, some of the Weasley's are weasels- but in a good way!
They’re so cute.
(But they wouldn’t have made it to 17 if they were my sons!)
Oh no! I hope he’s feeling better.
Sorry to be so vague! :)
Making progress. His breathing is quieter this evening, and we’ve got the fever under control. I’ll take him back to the clinic tomorrow so they listen to his lungs again, but they took x-rays and didn’t see anything dangerous.
Well that’s good news. Hope he sleeps well tonight.
Thanks ... so do I! Last night was a disaster!
You have a good night, too, and stay clam - it’s only another week!
LOL! Will do.
Good morning! Vlad’s feeling much better this morning, although his breathing is still very loud.
I was wondering why they don’t us Veritaserum more often at Hogwarts, given the way many of the students lie all the time. For example, they could have got the true story about the hippogriff’s attack on Draco Malfoy (not to mention the extent of his “injury”) and avoided a lot of nuisance.
Someone at work has a kid that had croup last week too. Does that sort of thing go around?
It’s a complication of cold viruses and/or allergies, so when there are colds going around, a percentage of children (usually babies/toddlers) will end up with croup.
Well that would make it ideal for lower-grade students, I should think.
The new Flitwick is horrible looking.
I finally saw the movie this afternoon. It would have been perplexing for anyone who hadn’t read the book, I think.
I loved the Weasley twins. Loved them!
I noticed that Sirius didn’t just fall thru the veil like in the book...but Bella actually Avada Kedavra’d him first. So, there was no ambiguity as to the fact of his death.
Rowling has actually answered that.
The short answer is that it's illegal. The longer answer is that it wouldn't work on someone who was prepared for it, for all the reasons that polygraphs aren't reliable.
How’s baby doing now?
My baby had it at Christmas when she was three. It was horrendous.
I really didn’t notice, although when my son saw it mentioned on the thread, he went into great detail about what changed in the most recent movies!
Vlad’s doing much better. We’re still needing to use Motrin or Tylenol a couple of times a day to keep his temperature down, and his breathing isn’t quite normal, but a huge improvement since Saturday morning.
This is the first time, with eight children, that we’ve had a croup diagnosis. However, I remember some awful respiratory episodes with some of the others, where I think I just didn’t have the sense to take them to the doctor, or didn’t think anything could be done.
Great thread! I just finished re-reading HBP and I’m still wiping the tears! Thank God the next book is only 6 days away! I’m more convinced than ever that Snape is still Dumbledore’s man. I believe Harry has completely misjudged him. When you think about it, the whole book is about Snape! There are so many clues to his character in the potions book, which Harry reveals throughout the story, unknowingly. And I don’t think Harry got it right about why DD trusts Snape so completely, that Snape revealed the prophecy to Voldemort.Seems to me, at the end DD went to great lengths to protect Snape from the Death Eaters and Snape went to great lengths to prevent Harry from using an Unforgivable Curse. DD told Harry his weapon against the DL is his pure soul, which he would no longer have if he uses an UC. In that fight at the gate Snape could have really harmed Harry but he didn’t, he just kept deflecting Harry’s curses and telling him “No!”, as though he were trying to tell him something and Harry wasn’t getting it. We know how powerful Snape is. If Snape had allowed Draco to kill DD, he himself would have died of the Unbreakable Vow. If he hadn’t killed DD himself the others would have known he had switched sides and killed him right there on the roof. I think DD has given Snape something to do that only he can do. In the cave DD said several times that he himself was expendable. But honestly, if JKR hadn’t actually said that DD is really dead I’d be utterly convinced that he’s coming back somehow. The symbolism of the Phoenix and knowing that DD knows how to make a Horcrux is just too much! Sorry for the long post. Just had it so fresh in my mind I had to share it!
