If you can get them, I highly recommend the British versions, narrated by Stephen Fry. He’s SO much better than Jim Dale. Dale always makes Hagrid sound retarded. And he always pronounces it “Voldemore” in the first book, which bugs me. :-)

I could understand Voldemort knowing the name "Wormtail" and knowing that Pettigrew was an animagus. It's not easy to keep secrets from him.

Actually, I think it quite fitting that Voldemort would use that name as it's a bit demeaning. Bad enough that his friends were a stag and a big dog and he was only a mouse, but he gets demoted to "worm". Actually, it's always reminded me of Wormwood in the Screwtape Letters (which I heard on tape narrated by John Cleese.)

Just saw most of PoA on ABC Family. There was one scene that struck a chord that had me check out the book when it was over. What was the foreshadowing in the 3rd movie that wasn't in the book??

Very simple, really.

In the book, when the axe comes down, Hermione is stunned -- she stands still, swaying, alone.
In the film, when the axe comes down, Hermione is standing in between Harry and Ron. She then turns TO RON for comfort, throwing her arms around HIM. Harry leans in and puts his hands on her shoulders.

By the following book, everyone was thinking, "Get a room, you two!"

“Voldemore” would be the correct French pronunciation for the name, which means, roughly, “Impetus to Death.”

It was important for him to be a small animal so that he could get to the lever on the Whomping Willow. 'Spose he could have been a squirrel, instead of a rat :-).

Interesting that it implies that the animagus form reflects the person in some way; that's like Philip Pullman's conception of the "daemon" as the person's visible soul.

Well, if your name is Sirius Black, I'm afraid you're destined to be a big, black dog. Well, a black dog anyway.
Now, why James Potter was a dear, I don't know. He was a dear to Lily, sure. And he's called "prongs" . . . Okay, I'm not touch those antlers.

Hmmm, does McGonagal have nine lives? After the attack she took in OotP, you might think so. Any other animagus that we know of?

Rita Skeeter was an unregistered animagus. I think she was a beetle or a mosquito.

Yes, thanks. She was a mosquito. Hence the name “skeeter” (which I thought was only American slang).

Nevermind. Just looking it up and everything points to her being a beetle, which makes no sense with her name. Tricky, Jo.

I loved the Hermione smack-down on Rita.

Classic!

Just finished watching - not many secrets but had some great clips. My sister and I placed our bets tonight on whether or not Snape is a bad guy. She’ll be buying me OoTP for me when it comes out on DVD! ;)

Beetle. The name “Skeeter” must be intended to reflect her personality.

True, and JK herself says it that way, although she realizes no one else does. Still bugs me though.

I’ve heard Stephen Fry is good, buy my library doesn’t have the British versions. And I’m too cheap to buy them right now in the midst of the mania. ;)

I sometimes think that Neville’s toad is an animagus. It keeps getting away and they have periods of time looking for it.

I’m still waiting for a tape set from the library, so I can’t form an opinion on the reader. The pronunciation of “Voldemort” won’t bother me, though.

Makes sense....scurries around in the dark, lurking. Hides behind and under things.

Interesting thought. It’s been around for a long time, too.
