The countdown is on! We're all waiting. Let's talk about it while we're waiting.
This countdown ticks down the time to both the Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows book and Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix film.

Yeah, Robbie Coltrane wouldn't need any lifts when he stood next to him!
Anyway, I don't like Gambon, but I'm not sure that Patrick Stewart is the voice I'd want. Sigh. Richard Harris was just so good in the part.
TS
On a pro-stewart note: get yourself a copy of Stewart's "A Christams Carol" on audio. It's actually his one-man show more than a straight reading of the book, but it's a delight when you're stuck in December traffic.
Thanks for the suggestion - I’ll have to look for it!
We were watching “Prisoner of Azkaban” the other night, which is the year Harry et al are 13, the same age as my Bill. There’s a scene where Harry is standing in the Dursleys’ kitchen, and kept thinking there was something really “off” about him.
Then I realized that he was just *standing* there: he wasn’t drumming on the counter, banging his head rhythmically on the cabinets, or clashing pan lids with his feet!
On the other hand, my favorite character in the series (next to Snape) is Gilderoy Lockhart and Branagh was so good. I'm really hoping he's in OOTP but the part is so small I'm sure it's been cut.
I wish they would do with the Harry Potter movies what they did with the LoTR movies and offer extended versions.
I like Fudge. The actor was Siegfried Farnon in the TV series of “All Creatures Great and Small,” and he’s playing this role in a very similar way.
The ABC family channel has had extended versions of some of the HP movies (Chamber of Secrets for sure), with some very nice added scenes, but when we’ve tried to BUY the “extended” versions (yes, there are some marketed that way), it was the same version, with an extra disc for games and whatnot.
I don’t care for Snape, either in the book or as portrayed in the movie, although I give Rickman a LOT of credit: he does a nice job making Snape more ambiguous than the two-dimensional way he is portrayed in the book.
wish they would do with the Harry Potter movies what they did with the LoTR movies and offer extended versions....
Me too, GOF was not near as good as the other 3 because they didn’t have enough time to build the story. I’m sort of nervous about OOTP because it is even longer and needs the extra time. I don’t even know how they will introduce Grawp.
Come to think of it, Delores Umbridge always made me think of Madeline Albright as well. :P)
In PoA, Trelawney offers to do some fortune telling for Lupin and he "escapes" before she gets a chance. We're led to believe that he doesn't want his fortune read because then everyone would know he was a werewolf. But towards the end of the book we learn Dumbledore has told the staff that Lupin is a werewolf. What else doesn't he want Trelawney to see?
An odd shiver passes over Lupins face after he tells Hermione that he doesn't want to see Harry dead. As James' friend, you can understand why he doesn't want harm to come to Harry but why does he take it so personally?
When Harry is describing what he hears as the Dementors approach (his mother being murdered by Voldemort) Lupin "makes a sudden motion with his arm, as though to grip Harry's shoulder, but thought better of it." Why does he react that way?
They have their ideas why Lupin acts this way - I think it's a little far fetched but they have a point about Lupin reacting to Trelawney the way he does. Like he's hiding something.
Also, during the Christmas dinner in PoA, there are 13 of them sitting around the table. Trelawney remarks about it being a bad omen and the first person to stand up and leave will die - remember who the first two to stand up together were? I wonder if that's a hint?
Very interesting! Maybe I’ll borrow the book from my neighbor tomorrow and read it again.
That's where I'd seen him!
A bit heftier, but the same face and voice.
His brother Tristan went on to become one of the Drs. Who.
GoF was my least favorite movie, and the least magical of the HP movies (as I’ve also said ad nauseum, lol!). I have an extensive list of complaints, but here is a partial one: No Dobby or Winky, no “real” Sirius, no Sphinx, and Fleur was pretty but certainly not a knock-out descendent of the enchanting Veela’s. The mer-people were scary and evil-looking, and, of course, Gambon was a disaster. In its defense, I thought the movie treated Barty Crouch Senior more believably than did the book, and the casting of Krum, MadEye, Cedric Diggory, and Cho was quite good.
Yes, she was a real disappointment.
IIRC, (and I probably don't so feel free to correct) DD offered to be the Potters secretkeeper, but they chose Sirius. Then at the last minute, they made Peter the secretkeeper. Bad move.
Sirius gives Hagrid his flying motorcycle, then goes after Peter and Vapormort.
Hagrid collects Harry from Godrics Hollow and brings him to DD at the Dursleys.
Where was Lupin??? Wasn't he one of their best friends??
Maybe he was a wolf at the time.
After the last movie has come out and we have all bought all seven, THEN they will begin releasing extended versions. :p
Ok, nearing the end of Sorceror’s Stone, and I don’t remember: Did we ever find out the identity of the cloaked figure who gave Hagrid the the dragon egg?
It just bugs me that he's not mentioned as a potential secret keeper (he can't talk while transformed.) He's not mentioned at all, and he was a Marauder!
It just seems strange...
I'm thinking of taking up meditation to get me through the next 19 days. :)
I think you’re on to something, actually ... I’m just not sure what. It’s interesting that Sirius’ relationship with James Potter gets quite a bit of development, while Lupin seems to be less a part of the memories.
It’s clear that Peter Pettigrew wasn’t fully accepted by Remus, Sirius, and James, but those three were very tight.
