We had to entertain ourselves rather than be entertained. We had to fill time rather than have it filled for us. We even battled boredom more than once. And won.
And, we learned the joys of a simple cardboard box. I just made my own kid a ‘Race-Car’ made from a cardboard box and a little duct tape. He has rooms full of plastic toys but that ‘Race Car’ has held his attention more than all the plastic, all the computer games and all the TV combined. Now, I show him an empty Quaker Oats container - and his imagination goes wild...
