Bob Barker endorsed his friend Rosie O'Donnell as a possible successor on "The Price Is Right," although the newly retired host isn't sure CBS wants a woman to take over the game show.
"I believe they're going to have a meeting with Rosie," Barker said backstage Friday night at the Daytime Emmy Awards, where he won his 19th trophy.
"She knows the show," he said. "There's no doubt in my mind she could do the show. Now, whether they want a lady host, I don't know. I've never heard that discussed. As far as I know, they've only auditioned men."
Barker said his friendship with O'Donnell goes back several years, when she had him as a guest on her old daytime talk show.
"She told me she loved `The Price Is Right' and wanted to host it one day," he recalled.

I would love to see Rosie get the show and fail, screwing up an iconic game show.
There is a very good chance that I will commit suicide if this happens.
You don't have to be liberal to be pro-animal rights and anti-fur.
The Price for the Right
Funny picture (but certainly not for the reasons they may have wanted!). Looks like someone “has issues” ;’}
Bob Barker is NOT an idiot. He was at the Daytime Emmys when he said this. It would have been unclassy to trash Rosie in this venue.
Hey, I'm a Price Is Right fan and I don't think that I'm an idiot. In fact, I bet you I could come closer to the actual retail price of a bag of Ricola cough drops than you could.
But it helps.
I’m sure Rosie O’Donnell could do a decent job hosting “The Price is Right” if she behaves and concentrates on hosting a game show. Trouble is that she could not resist the temptation to spout off about politics- especially with all of the uniformed servicemen who appear as contestants.
He’s an idiot Peta loon, and Rosie’s a loon.
But it helps.
Liberals should not be able to hijack a legitimate issue such as animal rights. I'm a libertarian/conservative and frankly I tend to think more of dogs in general than I do humans.
When working at a law firm I read some of the court papers for the sexual harassment suit on The Price is Right. Barker is one strange dude.
I'd be the first one to agree with you that Rosie is a C.U. Next Tuesday, but what is so "looney" about Barker speaking out against fur coats and in favor of pet spaying/neutering? I personally find his positions on these issues to be admirable.
I cannot imagine what Rosie O’Donnell would have in store for the hostesses.
Pet spaying/neutering is one thing, telling people what they should wear is another. Peta is an extreme left-wing group that puts animals above huamns and the tactics they use are deplorable.
As a libertarian, I would never support a ban on fur, but I really have no problem with someone using a bully pulpit to encourage people to voluntarily give it up.
Maybe I'm over-reacting to these criticisms of Barker, but I have been a fan of his literally since I was a baby, had tears in my eyes yesterday watching him host his final episode, and am disappointed to come here to FR the very next day and see him trashed. Bob served admirably in the military, and by all accounts is a great, stand-up guy.
And possibly senile, to boot.
I hope it is!
