And at the other end of the spectrum are schools who have teachers give awards out to every student, so as to not hurt a child's self esteem. Gone are the days when, if awards were given out, they were given out to the top students.
At the end of my son's 6th grade year, the teacher "forgot" to give an award to this one student..whether on purpose or on accident..don't know. I still remember her crying because she was so embarrassed.
My children were high achievers in school, but the school was more interested in making a big deal of the athletes. I recall being at their school and an announcement was made that a particular football player was going to make an announcement at a certain time in the library as to which college he chose to attend. It's all about the money, you know. It's no wonder why kids get labeled nerds and the sports players are looked on as the cool ones.
I disagree.....I attended such an award ceremony at my daughter's elementary school just yesterday. They hold them twice a year.
Sort of like when Homer Simpson missed out on Employee of the Week, after every other employee had won, when he was beaten by Inanimate Carbon Rod.
