LA PORTE -- A 27-year-old La Porte man died Saturday of an accidental drug overdose less than 24 hours after getting married.
Michael Hart Jr. was found unresponsive by his wife, Jami, in their bed around noon Saturday at a home on south CR-350E in La Porte County. The home belongs to Harts father.
The couple was married Friday.
Attempts by The La Porte County Herald-Argus to reach the father and Jami this morning were unsuccessful.
La Porte County Chief Deputy Coroner John Sullivan pronounced Harts time of death as 5:16 a.m. Saturday. A toxicology test revealed that the cause of death was poly drug use involving methadone and other drugs, Sullivan said. The death was ruled an accidental overdose.
Sgt. Tim Shortt of the La Porte County Sheriffs Department said that the only people present in the house at the time of Harts death were Hart, his wife and his father.
The couple had been out Friday night and returned to the house early Saturday morning, Shortt said.
Hart had bonded out of jail Tuesday, according to the La Porte County Clerks Office. He had been jailed on a charge of forgery, a Class C felony. A court date had been set for June 8 but had been postponed, according to the clerks office.
There was no indication that Hart was using methadone to wean himself off of heroin, Sullivan said.
An obituary appears today on page 2.
Wow, that's really... precise.
Spending one’s honeymoon with one’s father-in-law is enough to OD.
I often find my husband unresponsive. I need to be more careful and make sure he at least grunts everynow and then.
His wife is a lucky woman she was spared an very unhappy life.
I wonder if she had a chance to get the beneficiary changed on his life insurance.
Pitifully sad.
I hope the bride is able to put this horrible life to which she was willing to give herself quickly behind her, for society's sake as well as her own. I don't want to hear there's a book or movie about it all.

When the MEs have a recently deceased body, they take the body's skin temperature, core temperature and the ambient temperature.
Bodies completely cool from 98.6 down to room temperature over the course of hours at a fairly regular rate, so the ME just uses his temperature charts to calculate how long before the body was discovered that it began cooling (i.e. died).
5:16 am is just the time the spreadsheet spit out when he punched in all the temperature measurements as variables into the equation.
Did he trip and fall on a needle? Or is death by stupidity now considered an accident?
Yep, it probably doesn’t seem like it now, but this worked out for the best. It’s better to end it now before she winds up on an episode of Cops and loses the house because every nickel they have is going toward drugs.
