I have driven a big truck before and I agree the guy shouldn't be charged. If you have a scooter or a wheel chair I suggest a flag on it, if he had one this wouldn't have happened.

Was the wheelchair rolling? If so, I am amazed that its bearings did not fail.

Carpenter might want to consider investing in a flag on a pole or something.

“I suggest a flag on it,”
Exactly! There is public housing full of disabled next to the grocery where I shop.
Driving though the parking lot is like driving though a playground.
Flag the things!

Yeah, it was rolling! The poor guy said that the wheels were smoking and that he was surprised that he wasn't killed.

To: Abathar
Since the driver was not charged with any wrongdoing, the cynic in me thinks that young Mr. Carpenter figured he had a “right” to pass in front of the truck. (or any other vehicle)

I’m surprised he hasn’t been on Leno yet. We need to get him a moniker or something. Captain June Bug, The Grillmaster, Bumperman or something. If William Hung got his 15 minutes of fame this guy should get something too!

I’ve read a couple of articles about this and I have not seen who made the chair. Just guessing, the manufacturer has not yet outsourced to Red China. One article said the speed reached at least 50 mph.

He was attempting to cross a street in the wheelchair while the light was green. The Semi was stopped for the red light. While the soon to be June bug was crossing ... the light changed and the result was a long fast ride.

"Ben Carpenter, 21, of was attempting to pass in front of the truck June. 6 when the light at an intersection turned green and the 52-year-old driver, who was not identified, started to move."
According to the article, he was in the intersection when the light turned green. A lot of handicapped feel like they have a 'gold card' to do whatever they want.
