Actually, I don't do Atkins myself, but I do stay away from refined carbs as much as possible. All the research into lowcarb diets indicates that it does NOT cause any more heart disease than any other diet. What really matters is how much you eat, really. Low-carb diets do reduce blood sugar, insulin, and triglyceride levels, which in and of themselves cause a whole host of cardiovascular problems.

There really isn't much debate left, as others say, its your lifestyle that you need to change. Any significant weight loss will introduce metabolism changes which will have to be dealt with for life, by, basically, eating less and doing more, forever.

I eat high complex carbs and am losing. The carbs are important. Very low refined carbs, high complex carbs. :)
Very low fat
Very low salt
Very low sugar
Foods as grown (lots of veggies and fruit, not necessarily raw though)
