At least Kansas has the death penalty. I hope for the familys sake, the accused will not have a team of ACLU lawyers to challenge every motion and pleading before trial, and the sentence afterwards for 20 years. There are two states having jurisdiction as well as the federal government. If the evidence indicates that the actual murder occured in Missouri and if this is a capital crime under their laws then I have no problem with then trying him in Jackson County. Missouri actually executes the people on death row. To date the feds and my own state of Kansas have been reluctant to.

There are two states having jurisdiction as well as the federal government. Is Overland Park near the Missouri border? Was the girl found in Missouri? And,apart from the kidnapping,why would the Feds have jurisdiction here? I haven't followed this case closely and none of this is explained in the short news blurb above.
