Angela, before anything else, seriously, do this:

1. Power it down.
2. Unplug the power cord
3. Find and remove the battery.
4. Give it a minute
5. Replace the battery, and power back up

Trust me. I do this for a living.

I agree with you. I wouldn’t know how to treat a laptop, but it happens to my home pc, sometimes. I reboot and it goes back to normal.

I make my living doing this, but for Macs. Troubleshooting step number one is the same for both.
