Excellent post, Dan.
I make my living doing this, but for Macs. Troubleshooting step number one is the same for both.

Often a ruse is exposed by the perp’s inability to perfect a given scheme. If your problem is a “=” after you type a “p”, then please explain the 10th word from the end of your posted plight. (typed)

Call AlGore and ask him what to do about it. He has the amazing ability to diagnose the exact cause of even the most difficult problems based on little or no evidence, and then prescribe the perfect solution to that problem without the benefit of any relevant expertise whatsoever.

She said it was a LAPTOP! She’ll have to send itin for repair, or purchase a whole new computer.
Some keyboards can be programmed, and this one may have been accidentally been programmed. That has happened to me before, and it drives me crazy. Certain keys will automatically insert a line of type that you may not want. I never program my keyboards, but it has happened accidentally.

Post 39 has it nailed. On most laptop keyboards, there is a Number Lock that turns part of the keyboard into a number pad.
Simply undo the number lock.

In case the brain-handicapped haven't piped in, let me just say....
Get a MAC.
Get a new keyboard, they're only around 10 bucks.
Wait.

There is very good advise in diagnosing and fixing your problem here already. There are also viruses that affect your keyboard buffer. What anti-virus do you use and is kept up to date? I highly recommend Nod32 which updates its signatures daily.

One: That was exceptionally rude.
Two: It was directed at the wrong person. Publius6961 did not start this thread. 3AngelaD did.

“Usually FR folks are very kind”
The overwhelming majority of FR folks are very kind and generous.
I hope you sort out your problem, it’s got to be very frustrating!
