Very nice my!

And yes, we definitely should take in a performance at Bass Hall. It is worth the trip over here, for sure.

This Complete Mozart set is an incredible deal. (There is also a Complete JS Bach set which is also a delight.) In any set like this, especially with much music that is already familiar, some of the recordings are going to be clunkers. But so many are so good, and there are many (like all the early operas) that I never would have heard otherwise. This is a must buy for all Mozart lovers.

(Note that I first learned about the set via a WSJ article. At that time this set was still quite expensive at amazon.com and the WSJ recommended buying via amazon.com.fr or amazon.com.de. I bought my set from the the German site. Now the prices are closer so many will prefer to deal with the US site at the link I gave.)

For the symphonies and concerti, check out some of the period instrument recordings from Hogwood and Gardiner. Goodman's recording of the Requiem is hair-raisihg, especially the Kyrie.

For chamber music, the piano trios, piano quartets and string quintets are represented by some fine recordings as are some of his better string quartets. For his quintet for clarinet and strings, Stoltzman and Shiffrin are still the gold standard.

For something that has almost been forgotten, the "Gran Partita" for Winds in B-flat (K. 361) is a masterpiece, especially the slow movement. And check out Previn's recording of the quintet for piano and winds.

I saw this advertised on Amazon, but was put off by some of the comments regarding missing and duplicate CDs.

Also, some comments mentioned that the recordings are made using "period pieces."

Did you find that do be a negative at all?

I could cherry pick some recordings I like too, and they would all, or almost all be better than the ones that came with this set. Before I bought this set I already had full sets of the symphonies, piano sonatas, quartets, quintets, and the popular (popular enough that I've attended multiple performances of them at the Met anyway) operas, plus the usual, divirtimenti, concerti, masses, &c. It was still a good deal.

I did have one defective disk in my set. But since I talked two other guys into buying the same set, I just copied one of their copies of the disk that was defective. Both of the guys I suggested the set to are also very pleased with it. Check out the Amazon reviews. My recollection is that they were pretty accurate.

Not a problem.

I'm enjoying your contribution. Excellent pieces.
