The report we heard here over BBC short wave, was that the boy got off 16 shots and there were 9 confirmed hits. It took NINE 50 cal. slugs to knock that bad boy down(!) according to the father, Mike Stone, in his own voice.
Mr. Stone said that they got negative emails from animal lovers about having to shoot it 9 times.
Sounds more like a job for the .375 H&H to me.
But you can't always predict what's going to come charging out of the underbrush. .50 cal would have easily taken care of your typical 4-500 pound bo' hog.
Take into consideration this (my brother resides in Bama and alot has been said over the episode)...the gun was a pistol, which fires 50 cal rounds. With my carpel tunnel stuff...by the third shot...I’d have been finished. This kid fired 16 of these rounds. As for the method of hunt....in this region where it was shot....almost everyone has a quad bike and a hunting dog. They go as far out in the boonies as you can dream of...where almost no trails exist. There are weekly reports of dogs which tangle with the wild boars in the region (most folks have some kind of leather and armor they mount on the dog). Alot of the locals don’t believe the kid fired off 16 shots...and they question the fact that nine were hits...which if you think about it...one or two 50 cal slugs should have been enough to take it down. So we are left with a pure hunting story, and picture which you can’t argue about.
