Britney Spears booed for lip-synching at Florida concert

10:00AM Tuesday May 22, 2007

Britney Spears was booed by fans after being caught out lip-synching during a 'live' performance.

The troubled singer was performing at the House of Blues in Florida on Saturday night when technical glitches saw her backing CD skip repeatedly, exposing her miming.

A source is quoted by gossip website TMZ.com: "It was an ugly scene. The crowd started jeering and heckling her. Britney looked absolutely devastated."

"When the CD started skipping during the song Do Somethin', Britney hid her face and turned her back. Then, when it resolved itself, she turned around with this look on her face like she was going to puke."

Hundreds of fans had queued for hours and some had spent hundreds on tickets to see the show.

The appearance was part of a series of 15-minute concerts which have seen Britney perform live for the first time in three years under the pseudonym M+Ms.

After the initial hitch, Britney suffered further technical problems, which left her "rolling around on the floor with her headset broken".

Britney is not the first star to suffer the embarrassment of being caught miming.

Ashlee Simpson was left stunned during a performance on US comedy show Saturday Night Live in 2004 when the wrong backing track was accidentally played, leaving her mouthing the wrong words.

Madonna was also famously blasted by Sir Elton John for lip-synching at her stage shows.

I could be wrong, but I think there are laws about lip-synching a concert that is sold as “live”. IIRC, ELO, years ago, was caught doing it and there were financial repercussions.

You need to find the clip of PiL/Public Image Ltd. on American Bandstand. Johnny Rotten/Lydon (Ex-Pistol) wasn’t having ANY of it and made sure to expose the fraud...

Milli Vanili was different... they lip-synch to someone else’s voice. I don’t think that is acceptable not even with today’s low musical appreciation standards."

Milli Vanili lip-synched to someone elses voice because it was before the tuning and other magical capabilities of today. Now anybody can be a singer. Trust me, I know a bunch of 'em.

It’s a trade off. I’m sure your skirt comes closer to your knee as well.

True and I can’t stand her mother. She is a pushy stage mom who truly didn’t care about Britney...only the dollars she brought into the home. Britney’s sister is even going to be worse in my opinion.

If watch it, you can tell that Van wasn’t very pleased about it either. H elooked bored, then almost angry. I think everyone on American Bandstand had to lip synch. I remember seeing Randy Bachman on there with his guitar singing “you Ain’t Seen Nothing Yet” and no Turner or Overdrive. I guess the rpesence of his guitar made him look legit, but where were the sounds of the drums, keyboards, bass and rhythm guitar coming from?

There is something about that picture that makes Britney as attractive as a 60s female roller derby player. Wouldn’t mind a better picture of the girl next to her.

How can you lip-synch on Broadway ?? It’s LIVE music and there’s a backup orchestra behind you.

You have autotune (which can happen real time and can be used on stage) and vocaline which will replace one track with another, keeping the first timing if so desired. Used mostly for vocal replacements in movies (but also works with music). This used to be quite challenging for certain actors. If you are anywhere within 1 second of the timing, it will compensate for you and match things up.

Add to that all the editing capabilities, notes and rhythm repairs and replacements and generally anything photoshop can do visually, there are the same capabilities in audio. Just like you shouldn’t believe your eyes any longer, you shouldn’t believe your ears.

Britney may want to do herself a favor...and not invite that other girl to her future shows.

Britney Spears downward spiral began when she got the “kiss of death” from the old whore Madonna

Her initial experience at "lip-synching"...
