I am so sorry to hear that you have lost your best friend. Your eulogy for him was touching and very beautiful. I agree that heaven would be a very poor place, indeed, without our beloved pets who passed before us. I think that the Lord loves us and them too much not to reunite us in paradise. May your good memories of Buddy comfort you in the coming days. Bless you.
Hey, share anytime. You had a big day.
I’m sorry for your loss.
Cool dog.
Thank you for sharing this!Although it can never take Buddy’s place in your heart, I hope you do get another dog.
My condolences. What a sweet tribute.
You did good,Buddy was a happy Dog.
My thoughts are with you, someone that has never had a dog from puppy to old age might not understand but it is like losing a child or sibling. Very painful
sweet.
Truly, man’s (and woman’s) best friend...
It reminded me of the "Ode to Old Drum", a closing argument given in an 1870 civil case in Warrensburg, MO, over the loss of a dog. The Plaintiff's lawyer gave a very brief, but powerful closing argument that is in line with what you said of your dog.
Gentlemen of the Jury:
"The best friend a man has in this world may turn against him and become his enemy. His son or daughter that he has reared with loving care may prove ungrateful. Those who are nearest and dearest to us, those whom we trust with our happiness and our good name, may become traitors to their faith.
The money that a man has, he may lose. It flies away from him, perhaps when he needs it the most. A mans reputation may be sacrificed in a moment of ill-considered action. The people who are prone to fall on their knees to do us honor when success is with us may be the first to throw the stone of malice when failure settles its cloud upon our heads.
The one absolutely unselfish friend that a man can have in this selfish world, the one that never deserts him and the one that never proves ungrateful or treacherous is his dog."
"Gentleman of the Jury, a mans dog stands by him in prosperity and in poverty, in health and in sickness. He will sleep on the cold ground, where the wintry winds blow and the snow drives fiercely, if only he may be near his masters side. He will kiss the hand that has no food to offer, he will lick the wounds and sores that encounters the roughness of the world. He guards the sleep of his pauper master as if he were a prince. When all other friends desert, he remains. When riches take wings and reputation falls to pieces, he is as constant in his love as the sun in its journey through the heavens."
"If fortune drives the master forth an outcast in the world, friendless and homeless, the faithful dog asks no higher privilege than that of accompanying him to guard against danger, to fight against his enemies. When the last scene of all comes, and death takes the master in its embrace and his body is laid away in the cold ground, no matter if all other friends pursue their way, there by his graveside will the noble dog be found, his head between his paws, his eyes sad but open in alert watchfulness, faithful and true even to death."
Great that you two got to know each other.
Sigh. Here's to Buddy. Thanks for sharing this piece.
Your excellent tribute to Buddy brought a tear to my eye. So sorry for your loss Uglybiker. I think I will give my boy Strider a bowl of ice cream tonight; it’s one of his favorite treats. It will be in honor of Buddy.
We'll see our animals again. What's going on now here isn't their fault. They misbehave because nature itself has been tainted or people warp them to do bad things, but nothing personally is held against them. Remember, God says He is going to make all things new again (with notes that 'new again' can be read 'renew'). Why wouldn't the animals come back if ALL things will be made new? They will.
He had a great goofy grin. What a cool dog.
When God had made the Earth and sky,
The flowers and the trees,
He then made all the animals
And all the birds and bees.
And when his work was finished,
Not one was quite the same.
He said, “I’ll walk this earth of mine,
And give each one a name.”
And so he travelled land and sea,
And everywhere he went,
A little creature followed Him
Until his strength was spent.
And when all were named upon the Earth,
And in the sky and sea,
The little creature said, “Dear Lord,
There’s not one left for me!”
The Father smiled and softly said:
“I’ve left you till the end.
I’ve turned my own name back to front,
And called you DOG, my friend.”

what a beautiful tribute to a fine friend.
i am so sorry for your loss. :(
Condolences extended and tears shed. Buddy looks like the dog we lost about 11 years ago...Dusty. Although, we now have four dogs,Dusty holds a special place.
I sure hope my dogs will be in Paradise, ‘cause they are what makes earth bearable. :)
Hope a new friend shows up soon.
Boy can I feel for you. I lost my best friend in ‘03. It still pains me to think of her passing. PBS had a special on dogs about a week ago and it said that dogs are the only animal on earth that humans have such a special relationship with. I have cats and I love them, but no way are they like a dog.
