There’s something to be said for the justice meted out to child killers by other inmates in prison.

Yes there is - it's unworthy of a civilized nation. Weaver's punishment was determined by a court of law, there is no provision for anything extracurricular. It's exactly what leads to the Jim McDougals of the world being denied their heart medication.

Criminal justice has to be carried out by the book, or not at all.

The nation didn’t kill him - an inmate did.

So - you might ask why wasn’t he protected from the inmate?

That means solitary confinement - some say that is worse than death.
