GM advertising on Talk Radio
WJR ^ | 05/04/207 | taildragger

I happened to be listening to WJR is morning. Paul W. Smith was speaking to Rush Limbaugh about his day in Metro Detroit Yesterday. Rush mentioned he went to see Bob Lutz at GM. I am sure he will get into the details about this on his show.

What many may have not noticed is Rush, Sean Hannity, and Glenn Beck now all have GM as a major sponsor on their programs. I find it interesting that they have chosen this medium, or should I say what took them so long to find it given the demographics. I wonder if and how Mr. Lutz may have influenced this decision.

Yep, they gave them cars to “test drive” for the month and talk up as part of the advertising. Rush drives a $250,000++ specialty car I believe manufactured by Mercedes, called a MAYBACH, one of the most expensive cars in the world.

Hey, free market and, as Rush parodies himself sometimes, “confiscatory advertising rates” - more power to him. However, the gushing over that Cadillac cross-over is a bit much. What caught my ear was when Rush described the nav system being deactivated until the vehicle was not moving (or in park, not running, something like that). You’d expect him to rail about the mindset behind that. But never fear, because as Tush tells us, OnStar will download driving directions into the dashboard. GM is rapidly becoming a cellphone company with the vehicle as the loss-leader to get the business.

My question is given Lutz's Marine Aviation background and after having read his book "GUT's" how Conservative is he?

Also, did Rush get to see some of there up and coming product in the design studios? That would be something.

I am also curious if Rush will have anything to say on the Chevy "Volt".

Was looking for a post on which to hang this comment ... yeah, they are into talk radio big time and it is interesting to hear the talkers working brand names into their everyday conversation. I think it was Laura Ingraham talking about her ride out to take her F-18 flight and mentioned the brand name GM product they drove in.

The hosts have every right to seek revenue but IMHO it cheapens them a little to hear them touting sponsors like a NASCAR driver rattling off sponsor names in each and every sentence.

But the new point is that GM is running attack ads!!! I heard an Orlando area dealership's ad ripping Toyota a new one about now winning an award since 2001, being assembled - not made - in America, yada yada yada. No mention of how a GM product depreciates as fast as an anmesty-supporting congresscritter's ratings drop, abysmal quality record, overpriced OnSTAR phone service ...
