Crown Royal Presents The Jim Stewart 400

Richmond International Raceway

Welcome all to the the Nextel Cup race at Richmond International Raceway!

Since the first race in Richmond in 1953, the track has undergone three name changes, four configuration changes and one surface change, from dirt to asphalt.

Lights were also added to the facility in 1991. RIR is the only track to hold all of its major events under the lights.

Richmond's unique, .75-mile layout produces tremendous side-by-side racing, yet drivers obtain high enough speeds to give it a superspeedway feel. That rare combination still allows for the beating and banging that fans love, with the drivers' skill playing a major role.

The track's fall date is now the final race leading up to the 10-race Chase for the NextelCup.

Crown Royal Presents The Jim Stewart 400 at RIR is named after Jim Stewart from Houma, Louisiana, The winner of an essay contest sponsored by Crown Royal during the festivities leading up to the 2007 Daytona 500.
As guest of honor, Stewart will wave the green flag to start the race, as well as participate in the check and trophy presentations to the race winner in Victory Lane.
Crown Royal judged the finalists based on written and video submissions chronicling consumers' favorite "Crown-Worthy" moments, which is defined as a memorable moment or occasion deemed "worthy" of toasting with a Crown Royal cocktail in a responsible manner. Stewart's winning entry chronicled his moments growing up fishing with his father and later christening his own fishing boat with a toast to his father.

You know I'd never tell Nork anything that went on in his absence. But in my advanced age, I seem to have forgotten just what it was that I wasn't supposed to tell him.

I'd hate to let something slip that I shouldn't have... perhaps you could refresh my memory before he gets back?

HI! no I installed new antennas for the marine radio on my boat.

The kids pulled it out of the water last year without folding down the antennas the boat is a cruiser and sits about 12.5 ft tall on the trailer at the radar arch, with the ant’s up they were about 16 ft and at first trees they drove under wasted the fiberglass

OPPS, DAD SORRY!

During the broadcast they mentioned that someone on the 31 team dropped something in the engine and they couldn’t find it. They didn’t say what or where but DUH, like DW says when in doubt take it out. Starting last is better than not finishing.

Yes...get rid of the COT!

NASCAR put too much money into, and hyped it up too much, and they are too arrogant to admit when they made a big mistake, so we will have the COT for a long time to come.

I had a NASCAR official/PR type gush to me earlier this year about how the COT would level the playing field and would give a chance to the teams who might not be running a bunch of cars and had a ton of money. Funny, the teams winning the COT races seem to be big teams with lots of money.

I'll say it again, NASCAR came up with a solution to a problem that didn't exist. All of the safety features could have been implemented in the existing cars (which were already pretty safe).

NASCAR is just going downhill, and I'm not sure that they can reverse it at this point. Let me rephrase that - they could fix a lot of the problems they have going on, but they might anger some of the big money that's floating around.

I agree on all points...they won’t dump it now, even though they should, for the good of the sport.

The level of competitiveness is obviously better with the car of yesteryear. I’m a Jeff Gordon fan, mostly, but no one wants to see one team just dominate, as Hendrick is with the COT races.

The COT races have been boring, IMO. When I see they’re going to be racing COT, I anticipate a boring race.

I just hope they come up with a face-saving way to dump the COT (maybe by “refinining” it out of existence) in the next few years.

“I’m not looking forward to driving the car of tomorrow at Darlington,” he said. “People say the cars are ugly. Well, I don’t care what they look like, but they don’t drive as good as they should. In this day and age with all of the knowledge and technology we have, it’s ridiculous that these cars are so bad. That’s my opinion, which may not mean much, but I hope NASCAR listens to the drivers and teams when we say these cars don’t drive worth a damn.
“I mean, look at all the camber we have to run in the front end to make them turn - it’s just ridiculous, and there’s no reason why they should be that way. It’s still a new car, so maybe they’ll listen and make some changes to make it better.” Jr.

Thanks to a nice lady in So Carolina for the report from Lowe’s testing today.

Claire B talked to Jr a little bit ago and just played a bit of it on her show. I can’t quote because I didn’t write it down and I don’t remember it all but I can give you the gist of it. I really feel for him because he is frustrated but it was right comical the way he said it.

Jr said that the COT is the most frustrating thing he has ever been through in the sport. They need to talk to the drivers and especially the crew chiefs and mechanics about these cars. He will assist as much as he can but he can only tell them how the car feels. Tony Jr could tell them more. Jr said “I didn’t go that route.”LOL He said NASCAR had to do something. It won’t turn, it won’t do anything. Talked about the camber again. That it was just ridiculous to be running that much camber.

Then he proceeded to tell Claire and the assembled media there that the track at Richmond was part of the problem. He said that a few years ago when that track was so good to race on that they were resealing it every year. He said the racing was great. He just didn’t understand why they stopped resealing it. The COT makes it worse. He said its impossible to run the top groove with the car. You take it up there and try to turn the car and it just won’t turn. He said Richmond could help themselves ALOT by resealing the track. He didn’t understand WHY that hasn’t registered in somebody’s head yet. The racing would be so much better.

“I mean, HELLO!” He said he is one of the few drivers who can afford to speak up about this because his sponsor and place in the sport allows him to do so. Alot of other drivers can’t speak out like he can. He hopes NASCAR listens to criticism like they did as they were building the car along the way.

He is on a roll today.
