Crown Royal Presents The Jim Stewart 400Richmond International Raceway
Welcome all to the the Nextel Cup race at Richmond International Raceway!
Since the first race in Richmond in 1953, the track has undergone three name changes, four configuration changes and one surface change, from dirt to asphalt. Lights were also added to the facility in 1991. RIR is the only track to hold all of its major events under the lights. Richmond's unique, .75-mile layout produces tremendous side-by-side racing, yet drivers obtain high enough speeds to give it a superspeedway feel. That rare combination still allows for the beating and banging that fans love, with the drivers' skill playing a major role. The track's fall date is now the final race leading up to the 10-race Chase for the NextelCup.
Crown Royal Presents The Jim Stewart 400 at RIR is named after Jim Stewart from Houma, Louisiana, The winner of an essay contest sponsored by Crown Royal during the festivities leading up to the 2007 Daytona 500. As guest of honor, Stewart will wave the green flag to start the race, as well as participate in the check and trophy presentations to the race winner in Victory Lane. Crown Royal judged the finalists based on written and video submissions chronicling consumers' favorite "Crown-Worthy" moments, which is defined as a memorable moment or occasion deemed "worthy" of toasting with a Crown Royal cocktail in a responsible manner. Stewart's winning entry chronicled his moments growing up fishing with his father and later christening his own fishing boat with a toast to his father.

I’m headin’ out tomorrow at 6am from Detroit to Virginia to enjoy the acrid smell of fuel and rubber, the sounds of roaring V-8’s and the SHAKIN’ of the stands.
Gonna be lots of fun!

I guess I should have posted this one instead..
UPDATED RULES of the FR Thread road disclaimer..
------------
This thread is for fans of Nascar and was started to help Support Our Troops and have a regular place to watch and review Nascar activiity year-round. It was started 5 years ago to be a fun place for those that love Nascar racing to gather on race day to follow along and discuss the race.
This is an all volunteer FR operation and takes no funds from anyone and has no Nascar or sponsor affiliation.
It was also started so our military members and families could also visit it and get info and recaps about race results and goings on in Nascar.
It is NOT a political thread, at least not in off election years and posting of personal political views and rumors re: Nascar and/or drivers is highly discouraged and blatant attempts to stir up controversy will NOT be tolerated.
If you feel the urge building to let it rip, Please Take it elsewhere! I know folks say things in the heat of the moment, a simple apology usually does the trick or we can delete the post.
If you wish to bash, bang on or just say nasty things for the sake of stirring things up about teams and drivers, I recommend you NOT do it without realizing it throws the threads off kilter and I may have to Red Flag the thread and eject the stirrers.;-).
This is a race thread and not about personalities and peccadillos and who likes what teams and drivers etc, altho we all usually have a good time to doing the usual banter, just Keep it Civil.
If ya have to repeat your same old arguments 100 times over, Please Give us a break!
Stuff happens on the track , what looks like one guy's fault ain't always the case, so be a bit more prudent before ya lambaste or make a comment that isn't well-thoughtout and respectful to all the thread occupants.
If you wish to discuss politics, please take it to another thread where it is appropriate or start your own thread.
Posting of inappropriate pictures will also result in your post(s) being pulled. This is a family friendly thread, please keep that in mind.
Please keep the thread on topic as much as possible during the race. We post the current race positions and discussion of what is happening in the race for those that may not have the TV in the same room as the computer. Or, in some instances some may not even have the viewing channel available on their cable.
Thanks.. NR
