Crown Royal Presents The Jim Stewart 400

Richmond International Raceway

Welcome all to the the Nextel Cup race at Richmond International Raceway!

Since the first race in Richmond in 1953, the track has undergone three name changes, four configuration changes and one surface change, from dirt to asphalt.

Lights were also added to the facility in 1991. RIR is the only track to hold all of its major events under the lights.

Richmond's unique, .75-mile layout produces tremendous side-by-side racing, yet drivers obtain high enough speeds to give it a superspeedway feel. That rare combination still allows for the beating and banging that fans love, with the drivers' skill playing a major role.

The track's fall date is now the final race leading up to the 10-race Chase for the NextelCup.

Crown Royal Presents The Jim Stewart 400 at RIR is named after Jim Stewart from Houma, Louisiana, The winner of an essay contest sponsored by Crown Royal during the festivities leading up to the 2007 Daytona 500.
As guest of honor, Stewart will wave the green flag to start the race, as well as participate in the check and trophy presentations to the race winner in Victory Lane.
Crown Royal judged the finalists based on written and video submissions chronicling consumers' favorite "Crown-Worthy" moments, which is defined as a memorable moment or occasion deemed "worthy" of toasting with a Crown Royal cocktail in a responsible manner. Stewart's winning entry chronicled his moments growing up fishing with his father and later christening his own fishing boat with a toast to his father.

Well, it is pouring at my house now. Hard. We are about 2 miles from the track. I just checked with my boys and they said I made the right decision not to go. That’s what I needed to hear.

We will be there tomorrow for sure, if it is postponed.

Mike Helton is a sports god. Of all of the heads in pro sports, he is the best. The most accessable and the most capable.

One more thing. I have been in Richmond in a rain out before. The crowd, all 100,000 plus, go under the grandstands to get out of the rain.

Guess what. The stands are not waterproof. They leake. Badly.

It is a mess and I am VERY glad we bailed out tonight.

As I understand it Richmond has a 2am noise ordinance, so they would have to complete the race by then. Is that correct?

The race will probably be 1pm tomorrow.
