Some twenty year old recently started calling me by my first name, saw the displeasure on my face and asked me what I preferred to be called.

I said Ma’am.

It bugs me that people refer to our president as ‘bush’ and not President Bush. I think this is a matter of respect as well.

People are rude today and don’t even recognize their lack of manners.

Happens to me at work all the time. People will greet me by name in the hall and I have no idea who they are.

What’s worse is that some (males at work and male storeclerks) have started calling me “young man”. I remember that’s what they used to call the old guys.

They call me whatever the hell’s on the badge. I know I picked up the wrong one if the guard calls me “Ruby”.

Personally, I liked being called by my first name. For one thing, it’s very pretty...and it is my NAME after, all.

It also bugs me to have employees who after seeing my id call me by my first name as if they personally know me. It also bugs me when telemarketers call and ask for my husband or me by our first name and by so doing I am given the impressions it’s someone I know who’s calling.
on the other hand, grocery store employees are pretty good about being respectful and address me by my last name.

You aren’t alone. This first-naming business is irritating when performed by servers or clerks or check-out people but it’s absolutely infuriating when it’s done by nurses, doctors, lawyers, or bureaucrats.

If I am paying you some obscene amount of money to hear bad news, you’d better at least pretend that I’m your equal and not your kid.
