Do People You Dont Know Call You By Your First Name?
self | April 30, 2007 | beebuster2000

Do you know how bad it chaps my butt when I go thru security in the airport and a moron I never met, checking my ticket, starts calling me by my fiirst name? what happened to a little "Mr. Name"? and its not just there. EVERYwhere now people just automatically call you by your first name.

Am I the only one who is bugged by this little loss of respect?

Just another reason we are doomed.

It does not bother me at all. I have more important things to worry about like coping with the deaths of a daughter, brother, husband, bil, mom and aunt.

No, you are not by yourself. As long as I have been married, I have like to be called Mrs., unless I tell the person otherwise.

The worse thing though, is for 25 yo’s calling me honey or sweetie.

Hey, maybe you could change your name to something that sounds cool.

Dear Mr. Buster,

Can you be a LITTLE more specific. If they don’t know you how do they know your first name?

Is this in a work environment, social, etc.

Is there a significant age difference in the people addressing you, etc., e.g., your teenage daughter’s boyfriend calling you Jim and asking for a high-five, etc.

I understand where you’re coming from.

I substitute teach in a local high school.

One of the most disturbing trends among young people today is that it is not unusual for them to lack respect for others and to be extremely rude.

It doesn’t bother me as much as when an adult, after I introduce them to my children as Ms./Mr. soandso, will say “Oh, they can call me _____ . (gives first name). I say, “ok, then Ms./Mr. _____ (first name). They will say “No Ms./Mr.—they can just say _____”

I will then saym “No they cannot”, and this person will argue with me. That makes me a little nuts. I’m sorry if they want to be all casual, but my children are being raised to be respectful. I wouldn’t even go with the Ms./Mr. _____, but so many people don’t even bother with last name intros anymore. But there will be a Ms./Mr. in there somewhere, dang it.

It’s a common tactic to try to trip up people with a stolen ID that haven’t bothered to learn their new “name”.

Relax....

If that’s the worst you’ve been through, consider yourself fortunate. Believe me.....

I believe Beebuster was referring to when someone looks at your ID and instead of saying Mrs. or Mr. Buster, they say just plain Bee. Am I right? People do it to me when I have to use my ID around town. I understand what you mean. Not only that, because my name is a common name spelled in an uncommon way (thanks, Mom), they never pronounce it right anyway.

Actually, “Patton” is my first name.

I should have said, it only happens on line. ;)
